Poll question: Do you agree with Roberts that the police were right in dragging a 12-year
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 11:13 PM by genius
old girl in handcuffs for an infraction, even though an adult would have only been issued a citation? We're talking about the french fry case. He said that you couldn't trust a kid to tell the truth. So should the police institute a policy of dragging away kids for infractions. Should they have officers sitting outside school grounds ready to arrest the kids who jaywalk across the street to get to class?

1. Is there no way
to incorporate all your objections into one thread?

2. Things tend to get glossed over when they are combined.
Roberts has so many awful points that we really need to take note of the fact that it's not just one issue or a couple. There are lots of bad points about this guy. No one should be backing him.

4. But your polls
are ridiculously misleading.

You are ascribing positions to him that aren't his. And you're doing it again and again and again.

It would be better to put all lies and exaggerations into one thread.

5. These are his positions. Read his decisions, his writings, his comments
on TV, his briefs. They are his and that is the problem. He is extreme.

he opposes equal pay for men and women? Where has he advocated beating women? You know those are not his stated positions.

Look... I have no desire to defend Roberts. I wish he wasn't going to be on the court, but to distort and lie about him doesn't do our side any good, either.

Isn't it good enough to say "He's a conservative, I'm a liberal - for that reason I disagree with him." Why lie about his positions?

on edit: And why spam the forum? We get the fact that you don't like him. Saying it 6 times doesn't get the point across any more than saying it once.

9. You have to be kidding.Haven't you read any alerts or watched the hearing?
I gave a link on the equal pay, which I got from google, which has hundreds of links for his stated opposition to the equal pay for women. He stated on a talk show his opposition to the Violence Against Women Act and was questioned about this in the hearings.Did you miss the hearings?

My postings were specific and you need to characterize them correctly.

Look up some information about this guy from any knowledgeable source before you put down people who correctly describe his positions. It is important to look beyond the Republican spin.

7. Sorry this is a misleading poll...
Roberts could not overturn the conviction because it did not violate the law...that was his job...nothing more. If you want to criticize someone, criticize the metro police for overreacting.

Roberts has alot of things wrong with him, why concentrate on this, and then distort the actual record!!!

trusted to tell the truth about who she was. Roberts's position on this issue is very upsetting to children who believe they are more trustworthy than adults and should not be dragged away in handcuffs, when they have not committed a jailable offense, just because adults don't trust children. In high schools and GRAMMAR SCHOOLS kids are discussing this as an attrocity akin to child abuse.

11. Roberts seems to come from the kids-are-liars school
You know, that very old school of thought which assumes kids are liars until they can prove themselves truthful. His attitude smacks of child abuse if you ask me.
