Sickening, horrifying thought:
If the casualty count in NO is lower than 10,000,

Will the Bushies claim this as "victory"?

2. How is it that they are now reporting a lower loss of lives than
they expected? Or do I not want to know. I mean I get that part of it is that there is still water but...?

5. ok I don't believe them for starters
I think teh casualty number is quite higher than they will admit, but that is my gut, I just don't trust them

Why do they want to do that? Whether it is true or not, is besides the point this is politics for them... and thousands killed is just simply bad politics.

6. The evacuation plan had guessed that 50,000 or more would be
dead/casualties if the levees broke. They knew it was less than that because of the thousands of rescues. So they guessed 10,000. Also the storm & levee breaks didn't happen at the same time. It wasn't hurricane surge - it was levee break and water coming in from Lake Ponchartrain later Monday & Tuesday.

I think they said there were 9,000 at the Superdome the first night and then 20,000 or more were people who were evacuated to the Superdome after the hurricane. With more evacuees at the convention centre. Those were all people who made it through the storm in their own homes or hotels.

So they did save many. They just didn't have control enough to bus people out or keep control of the city Wednesday & Thursday. Don't know if it was 10 or 200 who died because it all fell apart.

12. You don't think their family and friend won't notice?
I think we will end up with a fairly accurate count. Too many people involved to try to hide too many of the bodies.

3. Not funny. As low as she can go. Bush did what he did. He gutted FEMA,
he was more interested in capital markets, he has people around him who give him criminally bad advice.

We don't want one more person dead.

I know were being sarcastic.

4. you would need cooperation on the ground for hiding the stats. I
don't think they will get much support in the newly blue south.

11. They don't need to hide the stats. They just need to over-estimate
the stats and then come in under.

But NOLA had 10,000 body bags on-hand (I read somewhere that is how many one Part of the city had stashed away for a Hurricane). Their plan estimated 60,000 casualties. So things are already way under. We are very lucky.

I just had this realization of how the Bushies might play it.

7. Come on guys. It will make sense in the end. Levee break water
was from the lake in the days after the hurricane, not that very night. The City Plan estimated 60,000 dead or casualties in the event the hurricane itself washed away the dikes. At 10,000 it was already way below the estimates.

8. "managing" body count numbers is routine for the Bush Criminal Empire
No official count of Iraqi civillians killed, though estimates go up to 100,000 and worse.

Seems to be a lot of evidence that the "official" count of dead US troops in Iraq is considerably lower than the real number (i.e. if you die on the plane out of Iraqi airspace, it doesn't count)

And, as Nadine said in this thread, and I've pointed out elsewhere on the board, they MUST get a number lower than the 9-11 death count, or they will no longer be able to milk that incident for propaganda.

And without 9-11, the Chimp has nothing.

14. I just have to ask a question or two...
So then, since we know, that only the casualties that are deceased on the battlefield, are counted as actual deaths from the war(once they leave the battlefield alive they are no longer KIA)....how many people will still die from the toxic fumes/contamination that they suffered through in NO, while they were still there, and before they got evacuated...and will they be counted as casualties of *'s blunder?

Something else that I am curious about...WHY was it necessary to relocate the evacuees all over the states? Was the entire state of LA...destroyed? There weren't any military bases, that had been closed in that state, that could have been used? or NG armories? No other towns in that state that could have hosted evacuees? Did any of the people have medical exams before they were sent to this or that state to live for however long it takes? Didn't I read, right on this site, that there were high level chem/bio labs in NO that were destroyed, or at the very least flooded? Are all the samples secured, or did they escape into the flood waters? Usually samples are kept in glass containers/vials right? IF it was necessary for every human to be removed, because of toxicity of the area...then what might any of them be carrying with them to other places, that they might have been exposed to, w/o their knowledge? Or dare I ask that question?

Does anyone remember the flood of 93, I think it was, along the Mississippi...or the floods in ND...when Grand Forks/Fargo were under water...massive evacuations all over the states, didn't happen then, did it? They waited for the water to subside, FEMA arrived, gave loans, rebuilding started... Surely there were at least the same number of people affected, possibly more...and surely there was toxic waste then, also...I am not attempting to be a smart ass...or start something...but there are things that don't make sense, going on here...well, hell, none of it's made any sense...

How are you ever going to attain an accurate count of deaths, when the survivors are strewn everywhere? with as disheveled as the response to this horrid situation has been...is there ONE agency actually making it their priority to keep count, or what? It seems to me, that it's basically mass confusion....and disorganized confusion at best..

15. I think...........
the initial images and figures (Nagin's quote on all channels as potentially being 10k) are going to stick in the public's mind (not Bush's psycho base). I think there's so much bullshit flying now that many are tuning it all out. The initial images and figures/estimates will stick.
