How they Trash our Democrats: Olbermann "Out of Control Comment/Pelosi"
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 08:01 PM by KoKo01
This post is for our dear DU'er "Dr. Fate" and others who keep asking WHY DON'T OUR DEMOCRATS SPEAK OUT.

Just heard on Keith Olbermann's show as an introduction to the Clip where Pelosi says Bush is "DANGEROUS."

Keith introduced the segment by saying: "...and "of control comment" by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, today...."

Keith followed it with the MSNBC clip of Pelosi's comment. Hey, MSNBC! If Pelosi looked like "Taser Bernie Kerik" would you have spent more time on her comment rather than treating it like a "throw away?" :eyes:

Keith did follow up with an excellent piece by Eric Boehlert from Salon Magazine contrasting Bush/FEMA's respons to four (or was it five) hurricanes last year where the checks were but, the tents and FEMA Mobiles were set up and Miami which wasn't hit got a good piece of the change prompting investigations that went nowhere.

Keith then did some excellent satirical clips about Bush appearing with the Atlanta Firefighters where he was trying for the "9/11 Moment of Nostalgia" and some other good digs at this Mis-Administration.

BUT..Keith started off his who with National Guard having to guard the
Saks and Gucci Stores against LOOTERS....LOOTERS....LOOTERS....and I turned it off then and waited awhile but figured I'd try to watch a little more since Keith is about the only Media person who tries to be somewhat fair.

So...I give Keith a C+ tonight. I don't watch him all the time but know how much he's loved here. So, except for his first half of the show which made me sick and his trashing of Pelosi which was a total Rove Talking Point (...out of control comment by Dem Speaker Pelosi) I'd say he did so so. Hey, he has to make a living, too. :shrug;

1. I heard that remark too, and have to say I didn't like it one bit. As
far as MSM "having to make a buck" goes, not on the backs and dead bodies of improvished Americans.

There is a time when one has to say enough is enough.

Basta!! (means enough)

If we don't speak up for those who have no voice, then who will???

Sorry 'ole Keith buddy, your remark about Rep.Pelosi was uncalled for.

4. I thought about that also
He could have meant the monster's answer to Pelosi, I'm not sure. It seemed out of character as well as the time-line thing he did.

6. Ah, Rodeo, thanks! That probably explains it. I heard it too, and thought
he was referring to Pelosi. But maybe it was Bush's comment he referred to.

It didn't seem like Olberman's usual take on things. (I was REALLY glad that she said that!)

7. I thought he was referring to Bush as well
and, even if he wasn't, he did play the entire Pelosi clip - showing her recounting her conversation with Bush. By doing that, people can make their own judgements about her saying Bush is oblivious and dangergous.

17. Do you think he was being sarcastic then? I don't watch him alot..so
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 09:24 PM by KoKo01
maybe you guys know his style better than I. I don't have a problem catching his dry wit and the way he throws great barbs at hypocrits and fools...but the Pelosi thing seemed to be as I heard it. At least he showed the clip but it's not like TV Viewers would be seeing this everywhere since she didn't use extreme language like Santorum or Robertson. :eyes:

3. SThe only way the press notices a Democrat
is if they push the envelope right off of the desk.

They ARE speaking up (go to their websites, for instance), they just aren't getting face time--and face-time is all that really matters.

5. Did I miss something....
I thought Keith was referring to the statement made by Bush...which was "What didn't go right"?

8. Yes, that's what he was referring to...Bush.
You should have watched the WHOLE SHOW. Deliberate juxtaposition of events and timelines that SHOWED how badly the reaction to this disaster was botched. Clips of Bush with John McCain's cake and strumming his gee-tar. Clips of people saying "No one could have predicted this" contrasted with clips from days earlier saying "We're planning for the worst possible scenario."

Naah, Keith's remark about Pelosi being "out of control" was a sarcastic one. Implying that maybe being "out of control" was what was called for.

12. Yes, I think you are exactly right.
When I heard the lead-in "out of control remark..." I was going "huh?" and then when he played the full statement by Pelosi I got it.

KO's sarcasm can be subtle.

18. Yes. In context, it was clearer, and KO doesn't do inflammatory
below-the-belt editorializing like that.

10. I took it as referring to Shrub......also,
his comment about Dems and Repugs seeming to live in two different universes certainly resonates.

If this group of thugs remain in power, I guess our next alternative is to push for our own USA...blue state style....separate.

11. I liked Pelosi's remark, it's about time. Screw CM, we have this!
That's right, the internet is cosing in on CM (corporate media) as the preferred news medium for Americans. Pelosi and all of them should speak out long and hard and just let Kieth's quirkiness take a back seat.

Kieth Olberman does not determine what we say

When Kerry said it was time for regime change at home, Kieth referred to it as a 'career ending remark.'

Kieth is a crank. I loved the rest of the show but you just know that this guy gets random sometime and mouths off, probably at family reunions or with his whatever he lives with.

The heavy duty barbs are almost always directed to the real assholes so what the heck, I'll take someone 99% in the reality based community.

14. Nancy Pelosi just said what we all know to be true!
I was really glad to hear her say it.

It should be interesting to see if she backs down. I hope not...

Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 09:19 PM by Dr Fate
I'm glad they repeated her statement.

I'd like to see DEMs on those interview & debate shows back her up & take it up another notch.
