OK, for those who thought "the era of Big Government is over", think again. We should point out that National Disaster Preparedness is a fundamental Liberal Policy Priority - it's what we liberals work on while the cons are focusing on "protection of marriage" and other such nonsense.

FEMA, the National Guard, Disaster Recovery Planning, Conservation, are all functions of "Big Government". They are NOT things the Private Sector gives a hoot about.

The fact that Bush gutted our National Disaster Response infrastructure, and that specific cuts he made (such as cutting the plan for "Preparation for a Category 5 Hurricane Hitting New Orleans"; plans to reinforce the Levy's; and sending off the National Guard to Iraq) made Katrina MUCH worse than it had to be constitute SPECIFIC INDICTMENTS of Bush and the Bush Administration.

They are guilty of criminal negligence, what might be called "policy negligence". They did not take the precautions that an ordinary government would take to prevent harm to citizens.

I think we should focus our efforts to media, LTE's, etc. on documenting specific items where Bush has exhibited "Policy Negligence" regarding Katrina.

Again, We should point out that National Disaster Preparedness is a fundamental Liberal policy priority - it's what we liberals work on while the cons are focusing on "protection of marriage" and other such nonsense. Liberals focus on protecting us from overwhelming physical dangers, letting people be responsible for protecting themselves from "moral dangers".
