Re: James Lee Witt - a Level 3 attempt at a a poll
Rove has dispatched the political troops all across the airwaves, spinning it out that the Louisiana (Democratic) officials are all the blame that needs to be blamed.

Blanco has hired James Lee Witt, the highly respected and highly competent - and largely apolitical - former FEMA head under Clinton, as a state official.

Should Blanco use him as her public face in the necessary push-back against the Rovian onslaught that is just now starting?

If you think not, who would be better?

3. I'd pay big money for him to point out that it was CLINTON's (and his)
FEMA that worked so well in NYC after 9/11.

2. Witt should defintely be the public face...
He has the experience and the knowledge to push back against the bullshit corps. put forth by Rove and Bush. I have always liked him and am much more confident of some positive outcomes since Blanco hired him. It was a brilliant move on her part.

4. Why does Karl get to talk
about it, I thought know was not the time to discuss this. I think anyone Clinton, Witt should all spill, follow the paper trail.

5. IMHO
James Lee Witt would be the perfect front-and-center person. One way or another Rove will manufacture spin and talking points but Witt is very capable of cutting through the BS.

7. Witt would know what FEMA can do and what it can't do;
he would know what to ask for, and how to do so.

He would also, since he knows what's possible, be able to argue for it.

He will not have authorization to go around the people that he's supposed to be liaising with.

I think that hiring him speaks very eloquently what one of the problems was. I'm just not sure which side of the state/federal interface the problem was on, assuming just one side was at fault.
