Hastert: why rebuild NOLA? It's just gonna get flooded again.
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 04:29 PM by Julius Civitatus
Yes, my friends. Daily Kos just posted what House Speaker Dennis Hastert just said.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert dropped a bombshell on flood-ravaged New Orleans on Thursday by suggesting that it isn't sensible to rebuild the city.

"It doesn't make sense to me," Hastert told the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago in editions published today. "And it's a question that certainly we should ask."

Hastert's comments came as Congress cut short its summer recess and raced back to Washington to take up an emergency aid package expected to be $10 billion or more. Details of the legislation are still emerging, but it is expected to target critical items such as buses to evacuate the city, reinforcing existing flood protection and providing food and shelter for a growing population of refugees.

You would think someone in the RNC should tell their "leaders" to SHUT THE FUCK UP. Every time they have opened their yappers today, they have said something extremely insensitive or vicious.

Michael Chertoff: "The critical thing was to get people out of there before the disaster," he said on NBC's Today program. "Some people chose not to obey that order. That was a mistake on their part."

George W. Bush: "I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees"

George W. Bush: “I just can’t imagine waving a sign that says ‘Come and get me now.”

And Condi Rice was just spotted in NYC buying $1k shoes and attending "Spamalot." Nice.

It's in situations like these that Republicans demonstrate the callous, vicious pricks that they are. "Culture of life" my ass!

3. In two days the GOP has lowered the bar to incredible levels
Everything they have said today has been stupid, offensive or inappropriate.

And don't go to FreeRepublic or any other freak site, you'll be surprised the nastiness and racism coming out there.

2. Yeah, Republicans will just steal money for maintence of the levees again
and piss it away in the form of bombs on some unsuspecting country and then N.O. will be flooded again.

He may have a point. We can outwit and overcome nature, but not Republican Nature.

6. Does anybody know what he said about replacing the WTC?
What he's really saying is Halliburton is just too strapped in Iraq to rebuild NO too, so we'll just have to wait til they can hire more people and clear their schedule for NO.

7. Hastert ( TRAITOR) cares more about rebuilding Iraq than the good old USA.

8. Imagine if Holland took that attitude.
"Don't dam it, damn it." :eyes:

What a revolting thing to say -- not only in terms of making sense, but also in terms of complete insensitivity at this moment. Unbelievable.
