Am I hallucinating or is Frist making sense?
I'm watching the replay of Frist's speech from this morning about embrionic stem-cell research and he's giving my opinion on this issue on the Senate floor. What the hell? Please tell me it's something in the water and he's not saying something I agree with. My head may explode.

2. Yep
He sounded like a doctor and a man of science rather than a Bushie today.

Unfortunately, he'll get back to being his normal self next week.

17. Political expedience ...
He looked like a crazed yahoo zealot during the entire Schiavo fiasco ... which appealed ONLY to the religiously insane. His behavior was so unconscionable that I think it even got to the right wingers whose particular insanity is not tied to religion.

He simply stated the opinion of most reasonable educated adults today; parroting the popular view.

I am sure that if chimpy ever "goes down" for his criminal behavior Frist will be on the floor claiming that he believed that * was mentally retarded (just look at the video clips of him)the entire time.

How Rovian...
Frist is trying to move towards the center... especially after the Terri Shiavo disaster.

And this will provide cover for Bush and Traitor-Gate. They would much rather defend their position on Stem Cells than discuss KKKarl Rove's up coming sentencing hearing. (I hear he may get the chair)

5. Just remember, Frist is the same pandering ass-lick......
that merely watched a video of Terri Schiavo and diagnosed that she was NOT in a persistant vegetative state.

He also refused, in an interview, to admit that HIV could NOT be transmitted through tears, sweat or casual contact.

Frist will say anything in an attempt to broaden his base! Don't be fooled just because you happen to agree with his stance on embryonic stem cell research.

12. Also looking to future profit$. Blood and money trumps lock step.
His family business will likely profit from the many treatment advancements which come with the research. Putting the Frist Family interests above towing the party line. Not a big surprise

13. Frist has simply started his '08 Presidential run
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 06:45 PM by rocknation
He knows that will mean divorcing himself from Bush and his wingnut leadership both politically and literally. And that means appearing to be more of a moderate--he can always make a hard right once in office like some presidents I can think of. In short, he's telling real Republicans and moderate Christians what they want to hear. But I wouldn't him any farther than I could throw him.

18. Precisely my thinking. When I heard that this afternoon, this longtime
SCR advocate nearly tossed her cookie.

He'll be happy to lead the charge to limit it if he's at 1600 Penn, though.

God help us all--it can be worse than it already is.

15. I think a lot of repugs are sick of the bible banging fanatics crap
Maybe Frist is the forerunner for another way of thinking--- that the christian fanatics are running TOO amok --- that there has to be some meeting point between the right and left--- wishful thinking? maybe. Maybe a return to a sense of balance in the political world. The right wing is stocked with intelligent people(as we are) and sometime they will have to realize that the bible bangers will create a government VERY similar to the Taliban.Who needs these fanatics in the long run? NO ONE!

19. I suspect some sort of deal.
Bush probably doesn't really care about stem cells, he just can't backtrack on the issue now, just like the anti-gay marriage ammendment. So maybe he's trying to find a way to get stem cell research pushed through, and at the same time not flip-flop on it. That's where Frist comes in. It's the only thing that really makes any sense to me in this. What do you think?

20. He's making sense TODAY...
He is doing a huge flip-flop. He didn't just become a doctor today. He's known all along that embryonic stem cell research being done on blastocycsts that have already been created at an IVF clinic and will be destroyed anyway makes perfect sense, but only now did he realize that this is a popular position with the majority of Americans. He'll be destroyed for this in an '08 primary, being called a flip-flopper who sold out his beliefs. Remember Terri Schiavo and how he diagnosed her from the floor of the Senate and then claimed he never did so? He's history. Don't believe a word he says.

21. Nancy Reagan is behind this and it will be explained as something to
help Alzheimer's and others. It was not so much a "bone to throw at the Left" but a way to show Bush is a "compassionate conservative" to the sainted Reaganites.

Frist is NO HERO in this. Chimp gave the orders that Nancy said...you better do this or I will "spill the beans" on everything "Saint Ronnie and I knew about all of you."

Look at the politics. Would Chimp ever do anything to his RW that he couldn't explain to them? Stem Cell Research is like "baby killing" to the Rabid Right. But Nancy fought hard to get this through. She was in the WH recently and went over to England and was there when the London Bombing occurred. Couldn't one think she was visiting Blair (Bush Poodle) to convince him to convince the Chimp and get both of them on her side? Just my opinion...

Dobson called him and told him that the Fundie Fascists decided against him. Frist made a few calls to some Pharm Corps. and got backing. He's back on track now.
