RNC dumps over $500K into attack ad against Major Paul Hackett...
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 04:58 PM by larissa
Campaign Manager for Schmidt (Joe Braun) says "it's an incredible buy. It's like one out of every three commercials that air."

In this article -> "Money Pouring Into Races - Cincinnati Enquirer": http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050729/NEWS01/507290393/1056

Also this one.. :puke:

"Delay, Inc. Buy Schmidt":

..."In a sign that the 2nd Congressional District race might be tight, the National Republican Congressional Committee has dumped more than $500,000 into a TV ad campaign attacking Democrat Paul Hackett.
The ad buy was estimated at $265,000 in the Cincinnati media market, along with another $250,000 on Huntington, W.Va., stations that cover the eastern end of the seven-county district." (con't): http://blog.dccc.org/mt/archives/003237.html

And they claim ..."they're not worried" :eyes:

30. Billmon.org on Hackett..
><snips><

I've been through Hackett's district -- in the heart of Ohio's hillbilly belt -- and it's one of those places where Republicans perversely thrive by meshing the votes of conservative suburbanites and rural traditionalists. Even the dying mill towns along the Ohio ignore their economic interests and vote Republican these days, although not by the same kind of margins as the two big Cincinnati collar counties -- Warren and Clermont. Those went for Cheneybush last year by margins of 72% and 71%, respectively. They could fairly be said to have played a pivotal role in keeping the Rovians in the White House, given that the combined GOP margin -- almost 80,000 votes -- accounted for two-thirds of Cheneybush's entire statewide edge over Kerry.

The ability of the Rovians to pull fresh GOP votes out of those two counties certainly challenged plausibility, and, in Clermont's case, almost defied mathematics. Consider the fact that according to the Census Bureau, Clermont's population rose only 4.4% (about 7,800 souls) between 2000 and 2003, while reported GOP turnout increased by roughly 31% (about 14,600 votes) from 2000 to 2004. This in a county that only had about 122,000 registered voters last year, according to the Cincinatti Enquirer. Mr. Diebold must be very proud.

What prompted the committee's entry into the Schmidt-Hackett race was a comment made by Hackett in a USA Today article published Thursday. Hackett, talking about his service as a marine in Iraq, is quoted as saying, "I've said I don't like the son-of-a-b--- that lives in the White House. But I'd put my life on the line for him."
Because Hackett said that, Forti said, "we decided to bury him."

Actually, I think the "revenge" angle is pure propaganda, a clever way to gull the media into believing this is not a crash effort to keep Hackett from getting close enough for him and the Dems to claim a moral victory. But the fact that the GOP can afford to dump $500k into a race just to keep the opposition from scoring a few bragging points (or to punish the crime of lese majesty -- take your pick) is a sign of just how much of a financial supercharge 10 years of DeLayism have given the machine.

Much more at..

Contact person and phone number to call for anyone
interested in going to help anytime between now and Tuesday (they
will send you money for gas and give you housing!) is Jeremy Berkowitz at 813-789-1547, who is in charge of assigning people to specific counties and finding everyone housing.

He says the email function has been overwhelmed and to just call HQ and/or show up at the Hackett campaign event tomorrow (see below) and then head to campaign HQ afterwards to get assignments:

John Glenn, Max Cleland (who was here in NJ yesterday campaigning
for two Dem House members up for 2006 re-election and Jon Corzine,
who's running for Governor), Ted Strickland and Mayor Norm Coleman
(who endorsed Wes Clark for President last year and sat on a Clark04
committee) will be there supporting Hackett at 10 AM at 1523 Madison
Road in Cincinnati.

Good news! The DCCC is publicly joining the battle:

44. It really pisses me off when rethugs talk about
raising taxes. That's one of their favorite attacks.

Taxes are what pays for schools, medicare/medicaid, roads & highways,
after school programs, senior centers, parks that beautify a city and give children a place to hang out, water sanitation. Taxes pay for what is great about America. It is the way we invest in our country. Invest in our communities. Something that they don't give a rat's ass about.

I'd much rather give my money to the things above, then the corporate world that they live in!

And then they attack us for this, because they want the "have's" to keep their selfish $$$.

45. I know - I don't understand why they don't see that taxes is what pays
for all of our services - things that repugs certainly won't do without either. And Ohio is in the trash because of all of the tax cuts that Taft has pushed through. Libraries have cut hours, no lifeguards at the state parks for several years now(drownings are occurring), recycling offices and services are closing down, etc., etc..... They may as well shut down Ohio and turn off the lights as we all leave.

And if it is "too close to call" or if there are major complaints, we need to go to the mat.

What if this microcosm of the 2004 Ohio presidential election turned out to be what is needed to uncover the electoral fraud that went on then? I hope that Howard Dean and the Ohio Democrats have a plan in place should a recount be required.

In fact the first Iraqi veteran ran for Congress last year here in Virginia. Both papers endorsed him, and he lost, because Repubs care more about party than they do the troops.
