United States plans to invade Venezuelan airwaves in propaganda strike

Inter Press Service (IPS) Humberto Marquez writes: The Venezuelan Congress has approved a resolution opposing a decision by the US House of Representatives to finance radio & TV broadcasts to Venezuela with the aim of countering Telesur ... a new pan-Latin American station.

Telesur, a Venezuelan government initiative undertaken in association with Argentina, Cuba and Uruguay, has already drawn the wrath of the United States even before it goes on the air this Sunday.

The US lower house of Congress passed an amendment Wednesday "to initiate radio and television broadcasts that will provide a consistently accurate, objective, and comprehensive source of news to Venezuela" to counter Telesur's "anti-Americanism" ... in the words of Republican Representative Connie Mack (Florida), who sponsored the amendment.

2. I really hope the Latin Americans....
and particularly the Venezuelans keep standing up to BushCo. The OAS rejection of so-called "Democracy monitoring" was exactly the kind of backbone we need to see from our own democratic party.

4. Do you think the US and its politicians will ever leave other...
countries alone to live as they wish? It is amazing that the US believes what we spew out is never propaganda, just other countries do that. Connie Mack of Florida is a nut case, in my opinion. Please leave Venezuela alone!!!

6. US just clinched a deal to open a military base in Paraguay
Its probably no accident that the country supplies 20% of Brazil's electricity.
