The Draft Zinni Movement

There is a small movement to draft retired general Anthony Zinni to run for Senate as a Democrat in Pennsylvannia. Now I would in most cases be willing to support Anthony Zinni going against Santorum in Pennsylvannia if he is not anti-choice. I think Zinni would make a great candidate for the Democrats. Anyone interested in this movement can go to www.draftzinni.com. So what do other DUer think?

where he was promoting his book and he did state that he is a Republican.

Savage Love (I don't know if he is available on the net) has a great use of the word Santorum. People should check it out. Anything instead of him would be an improvement.

The same goes for that Frist guy. I hope he quits to run for president. (He may. His re-election numbers are sagging worse than a viagra candidate)

but if Zinni voted in the Republican primary in 2004 and did not switch to vote in a Democratic primary (if there even was one) in 2005, the question would be, could he even file to run as a Democrat? I don't know, the law varies by state.

As to your point about Frist. Why would he have to drop out of the Senate to run for President? He should be up for re-election in 2006. Assuming he wins, he wouldn't need to resign to run for President in 2008. If he were to lose in 2006, that pretty much finishes him off as far as any presidential hopes.

his mainstream supporters, Jerry Fawell, Pat Robertson and others are rooting for him. He is up for election on 2006, and using his hard earned cash to run for senate, then having to re-earn it to pay for a pres run at pretty much the same time, not even Bill Gates has that kind of earning power.

5. I read his book "Battle Ready"

Though he didn't say it outright, I got the feeling he didn't think much of politicians in general. Sort of tolerated them like a low grade fever.

I doubt very much he would want to join their ranks and lower himself into their snake pit.

He would, if convinced make a very good candidate to run against Santorum.

He wouldn't want to go into the Senate any more than a snake pit. But then again, he's a battle-tested marine, so I think he could deal with it.

9. Was a Republican -- at any rate, endorsed Bush in 2000

He later said that he considered getting even tangentiallly involved in electoral politics a big mistake. Obviously he opposed the war and doesn't like the Bush regime now, but I doubt if he'd be interested in running.

if he would be voting for W. He hestitated but said it depended on bush getting rid of the creeps surrounding him. He is most definately republican.

13. This guy had a great reputation in the Marine Corps. He was a

passenger(the only one) my husband dropped into a rain soaked landing zone in driving rain on Okinawa. He was dropped off a ch-46(HMM-262) and left there (the way it was supposed to be) and never complained . Not a jerk, good man.

14. Speaking of the Senate

I jsut sent a letter to our senators. I want to see the gloves off. I am so so tired of seeing the Repugs getting away with lies and deceit and the selling out of this country. We need our senators to carry some water with the Downing Street Memos, Investigation into Pre Iraq war dealings, and the final stage of the 9/11 commissions report. And for the love of god, PLease remember the word "LIE". If teh VP of US can tell people to F*** Off on the legaslative floors of our goverment, we can sure us the word "LIE" when appropriate.

I want Bill Frist's ears to be ringing in his sleep with echoes of

"Iraq war deceit"
"Osama bin Laden still around"
"Dead US service people because of lies"
"IMpeachment"


I told them, we will do our part in '06.

17. Draft Zinni in VA

Hey there-
I'm the one behind this very small movement. Just to be clear, I was advocating that Democrats draft Zinni to run against Santorum in PA, where Zinni was born, raised, and educated through college. However, I now think it makes a whole lot more sense to Draft Zinni to run for the Senate seat in VA, where he currently lives.

But if anyone of you think this a good idea and you'd like to help make it happen I could really use some more people joining in....
