Who knows....Roberts could turn out to be a Souter. But, that could just be wishful thinking.

But we need to choose our battles carefully. Odds are, he'll be confirmed regardless. Still, Senate Democrats should vote no as a bloc. But I think a filibuster would backfire politically. Can anyone say, "obstructionist"?

Just my two cents. Flame away.

You knew it would be a Radical Rightwing corporatist or faith-based puppet.

4. Of course . There could have been countless nominees we
would have liked. I don't understand the question. Also, I don't care if they call us obstuctionists, and I'm surprised that anyone on this board does.

6. I agree
Bush has never done anything I've agreed with or liked. Why would this be different?

Also, my first post at DU! I couldn't wait to say something profound, I just wanted to DO IT! Hi Everyone! :hi:

7. accepted but not liked

I think there could be a "mainstream" conservative that could be acceptable. Don't really know how to characterize what that would be, kinda like know it when you see it.

I did not expect that, we have what I expected far right low paper trail nominee, everyone learned from Bork if you want to make it to the court with a far right agenda don't write. That is the only reason to not have a paper trail.

Time to stand up! Expose and stand up!

12. Yes, the UN-neocon conservative
You know, the ones who called our side the loyal opposition. The ones our side called the same when we had the majority.

The ones who don't promote hatred as sure as they live and breathe each day.

We can fight more than one battle at the same time, if we choose.

For all anyone knows, letting this guy be confirmed quickly could dominate the media as much as a big battle.

Besides, remember if they call our side obstructionist etc, who on their side is providing such strategy? The Rover.

9. The neocons were always
going to select someone they thought was poison to our ideals.

We should fight, of course -- and who knows, maybe something can be found on this guy.

And if we can delay this long enough, maybe we can find out if other seats will be in play this year. -- Because this might change the dynamic a little (and possibly for the better) -- that is, if it is going to happen anyway, maybe it's better if everybody sees this clearly and unarguably.

10. It's not personal
It shouldn't be the "politics of personal destruction,' but that does not mean the Democrats and left should just quietly roll over.

This is about basic poilitical philosophy and its implications. That has to be made clear, and it's up to the Democrats to point that out.
