Dean.
It seems people here on DU are subdued about Dean. I don't think you should be. I think you should be proud of this man. Now, I could be wrong, and you all could just be out working your asses off, which might explain why you're not posting, but hey, what do I know.

I haven't been paying that much attention to the presidental primaries, or even politics in general, because quite frankly, 2000 left me feeling quite disinfranchized, and I simply didn't care about the democratic process. I cannot say that much has really changed for me. I read DU for news, and the ocassional political spat, but I really can't get in to it. I know I'm probably going to be blamed for the "state of affairs" in the US like David Zephyr was for saying he wouldn't vote for someone who voted for the Iraq war, but whatever.

When I watch TV and hear media pundents bashing various candidates, particularly Dean and his "screech" and his "exaggerated campaign" etc, my heart just goes out to these people. These are the people who really are in there, who really are investing part of their lives to make, in their minds, the country better. Their actions do give me hope in one way. I can't say that I've felt this sort of thing from any other campaign.

So I'm backing you, Dean.

There are many Dean supporters who are members here who aren't posting much anymore for a vairety of reasons. There is great support for Dean here, though.

7. Thanks.
I honestly hadn't even considered which candidate was best until the "screech." Then I went and watched several speeches by the various candidates at CSPAN, and Dean affected me the most. His town hall meeting in NH really struck a cord with me because he said something to the effect that 50% of Americans don't vote, and it's his intention to get at those people. Now, I wasn't one of the 50% (I always vote in the presidential elections), but I almost was.

and all of the other Democratic candidates would represent the highest of the ideals and committment of our party if any one of them happens to become the nominee.

10. Yep.
And it pisses me off SO MUCH when people start the "you gotta watch what you say" CRAP. Maybe, just freaking maybe, we could use a President who isn't afraid so say what he thinks?

11. We're still in it for Dean!
While at the same time realizing Dean may not be "inevitable" the way he seemed before, having to adjust to the possibility of another candidate.

My sister and I just donated more and we will be canvassing for the WA caucuses.

12. i embrace the howl
it is now the all purpose system noise on my computer. although it surprised me the first few times it came on, cuz you just tune out those bells and stuff, and forget they are there. now it makes me smile every time i hear it. sometimes i will hit something one extra time, just to hear it.
and i am working on a dean version of this button-

the dean version has him surrounded by pennies, nickels, dimes, and a couple of mice. it's gonna say- howard dean, brought to you by- ordinary people.

the response to the free "give 'em hell howard" bumpersticker tells me that there is a strong reaction to all this as people realize the extent to which the media is influencing the political process. even non-dean people want it.

17. That's what it's all about
I understand what you're saying about feeling disenfranchised after 2000 and withdrawing from politics. I did the same thing.

9/11 shocked me into paying attention again and I was dismayed at what I saw. It was much, much worse than I could ever have imagined.

Howard Dean gives me hope that we can get our country back. He makes me believe that we can be a leader of the world again, not just in military strength, but in humanity and charity and true democracy. He is realistic, yet optimistic.

I'm not subdued about Dean. Not by a long shot. :7

After the smearing we and our candidate recieved, a lot of Dean supporters figured "fuck this" and aren't posting so much anymore.

However, we are still out there, and we are still working to elect this man.

22. The Doctor is STILL In and so am I!
It's been tough the past few weeks coming here...especially after "The Scream" and seeing the utter glee with which other posters were proclaiming the death of the Dean campaign based on the avalanche of negative/mocking press coverage. That seems to have abated recently with Gov. Dean's appearances, but that was a rough couple of days.

Notwithstanding the disgusting attempts by some here to prematurely bury the most exciting, energizing Democratic campaign in recent memory, I am still solidly behind Dean. And so are many others.

we Dean people appreciate it. I agree with you that there is no other campaign that makes one feel as hopeful as Dean's does. Maybe its because Dean's campaign is really our campaign, it is people-powered.

25. I'm still here!:-)
I was in Iowa last week, and it took me a few days to catch up on my rest. Also, I just don't feel like posting much here anymore. I've gotten more selective about what I click into. It's interesting to see the attacks escalate agsinst Kerry now, though. It seems the Kerry, Clark, and Edwards camps are squabbling more, since Iowa. Sometimes that amuses me, and sometimes I feel sorry for the other supporters for getting a taste of what we've had to deal with.

Tonight I will be attending a Victory Day's letter writing party. I look forward to seeing my local Dean buddies again, so we can catch up on things.

29. We are working our asses off
And I for one never have given more than my vote, an occasional letter to representatives, and a cynical comment. This year in this campaign, I'm organizing events for Dean, writing letters, contributin money, and working hard in the community to get people informed. This is a first for me and a first for most of the people I've met who are doing similar things. Being a part of it gives me a view of how democracy can look when people are engaged. Dean is a solid candidate with a solid record and great platform. The real change Dean has inspired means in this election we can keep the corporate fat cats out of the white house, and the Democratic Party can be run by the grassroots again as it should be.

35. It's curious how many people refer to the truth as "gaffes".
Howard Dean tells the truth. And, apparently as a defensive
reaction to the truth, people, especially his opponents,
aided and abetted by a complicit media, immediately try
to call the truth "another gaffe".

Well, the truth is the truth, and the sooner Democrats start
to value the truth over political spin, the sooner Democrats
will be returned to power.

So I'm backing you, Dean.

Lots of folks are still backing Dean. Lots of Democrats.
Lots of Greens. Lots of Independents. Quite a few Republicans.

This hasn't been the friendliest forum for Dean supporters
of late, but Howard Dean still has the best "mix" of all of
the necessary attributes to kick Shrub out of the White House
and right back to Crawford and the Lyin' W Ranch.
