Quick question: help w/ letter to editor

I'm writing a letter to my college paper about cable news coverage, and would like to make a point about the news getting "fluffier" when would-be scandals are being swept under the rug. I need an example of a worthy news story ignored during the "Runaway Bride" saga. Since this was at the very beginning of May, it slightly pre-dates the DSM. I apparently cannot search the archives at DU, so does anyone remember what specific events were going unreported then (aside from general ones such as the ongoing failure in Iraq and the Hunt for Bin Laden).
