1. I don't know on this one

It's like a crazy guy threatening to kill someone with an unloaded gun. You don't know until it is used. In this case, I only read the first few paragraphs, the cops may have been within their rights. BTW, how did he get that thing past the metal detectors?

2. Yesterday on DU people jumped all over this and said...
... all sorts of really disparaging comments against the police officers. Like, oh, was he black? The grenade wasn't live was it? Of course it was a dud. And so on and so forth...

Basically, any police shooting is automatically assumed to be a "bad shoot" by trigger finger cops. People wanna believe guys like Rush don't have any basis for saying nasty things about say, DU activist posters, but, when that's your knee jerk reaction, it's hard for casual observers to call it consistent with upholding a secure, civilized society.

Besides. It wasn't so long ago we had a courthouse judge killing. I'm sure the cops in this instance had that running through their minds.

3. ANYONE going into a government building or a 'secure' facility
and brandishes any manner of weapon had better be prepared to die at that very moment. The good old days of naivety have long since gone away....if you get my drift..

5. Unfortunately this is becoming more and more common
We had an incident like this in our town a couple of years ago. The guy threatened the cops with a gun then finally started to shoot at the cops, but the cops landed the only shots that hit. That ain't how I want to go out.

6. Sometimes the police are within their rights.
We also had an incident like this. A young kid was drunk off his butt at 3am brandishing a weapon in a fast food joint parking lot. The police told him to drop it and he pointed it at them, so naturally the police opened fire. The kid didn't die but was seriously wounded which resulted in him losing a testicle. Now afterward it was found out that the gun didn't work. Because of this fact and the fact that this kid was an American Indian some in our community started to cry that the shooting was racially motivated. My thinking is this, it is the middle of the night, and you are waving around a gun in a public place. Using common sense you would think that if you are told by the police to drop your gun and get on the ground, and you don't the police are well within their power to use deadly physical force. But this kid actually tried to sue the police on the grounds that because he was Indian this was a hate crime. Like the other poster said, if you turn a weapon on the police after being ordered to drop it, you deserve whatever happens. If that makes me sound like a conservative, I guess I will have to live with that. I have to say that sometimes people on the left do drive me nuts whenever something like this happens that they right away feel that the police have done something wrong in reacting like this. Most of the people on the left have common sense, but it is the few that don't that give the rest of us a bad name.
