Reps Conyers and Kaptur, please take note of Task Force 121
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 07:53 PM by EVDebs
""Meanwhile, the mandate for Task Force 121 just keeps on getting broader and broader. According to the New Yorker, the administration has been looking at expanding operations into Iran. Based on the same flimsy kind of intelligence that got the U.S. into Iraq in the first place, some in the Bush administration have now determined that Iran is the actual cause of all America's problems in Iraq.

One of the benefits of using a group like Task Force 121 as a secret army, carrying out the country's dirty work all over the world, is that Special Forces mission are not included under the War Powers Act.

The practical effect of that legal detail is that the president can launch Special Forces missions without having to notify Congress in advance, seek Congressional approval to continue or even disclose any details of the mission after its done, including the number of forces deployed, their appointed tasks, collateral damages along the way (like innocent civilians accidentally killed), any illegal or mistaken detentions... or whether Task Force members are stationed in specific locations, like Abu Ghraib, performing specific jobs, like beating confessions out of naked suspects wearing dog leashes. Operating OUTSIDE of the War Powers Act of 1973...Without notifying Congress...this looks like a unit that could get us into Iran faster than PNAC into Iraq. Is there ANY Congressional oversight on this unit ?

4. Here's how you do it:
:kick: meaning type colon, kick, colon. if you want a "donkey kicking" to appear in body text.
Or just type plain "kick" in the subject line.

When you post lookd at the top in "blue text" for "Smilies lookup table," and that will give you the "kick."

Or, if you don't want to admit you are kicking a post...lots of folks just hit a number after the last reply: like on a post with eight posts and you have no comment...you type 13...meaning you didn't want to post a "kick" (because you are TOO COOL) so you do a number. There are other symbols even more discreet that DU'ers use..like math symbols...but some of us just like that great old "standby" the DONKEY KICK to bump up a post for others to read, that we might not feel a need to comment on but support.

5. BTW...Rep Kaptur made a great point about "How many mercenary soldiers
are they and whose direction are they following, who are they responsible to, and was there a "kick up" in deployment of our National Guard well before the war...and of these "Mercenaries."

Maybe you could send this info to her via her website?
