As fears mount, Bush focuses on progress in Iraq war

WASHINGTON -- President Bush, on the defensive about the war in Iraq as death tolls continue to climb, has launched a major effort to quell public fears about the conflict and quiet calls from Capitol Hill to bring home U.S. troops.

Bush, whose approval ratings have slipped in recent weeks with worries mounting about the war and the economy, will home in on the two issues in the coming weeks, White House officials said yesterday.

The president plans to use public remarks, private meetings and a major speech at the end of the month to show his concern about the conflict in Iraq and his plans for succeeding there.

Bush "recognizes that this is a concern that's on the minds of the American people, and that's why he's going to sharpen his focus," said Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary. The president will be "spending more time talking about the progress that's being made on the ground -- there is significant progress that has been made in a short period of time -- the dangers that remain and that lie ahead, as well as our strategy for victory in Iraq."

====================

who's "fear" - the peoples? or bush*'s fear of going down the toilet? me thinks he took a peek at the poll numbers and is having an "oh Sh!t moment". He's going to go out there and flap his lips , spew a few more lies and apply generous amounts of lipstick on the pig....

IMHO -- too little too late for the spin and spews. People want some answers, they want to see a plan and they want it now.

1. Strategies for victory?!????
You mean to secure and control Iraq's economy, and then wage war on Iran...

:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Your explanations are bullshit and the world sees through the lies, there will be no hiding. Answer the questions. :thumbsdown:

2. He'll have to "focus" pretty hard to find that progress
For one view, see: http://www.anti-imperialism.net/lai/texte.php?langue=3§ion=CLBA&id=23833

Mohammed Hassan. A recent UN report noted that a quarter of Iraqi children suffer from chronic malnutrition, the probability of dying before the age of 40 is three times higher in Iraq than in the neighbouring countries, three quarters of the inhabitants do not have access to a stable supply of electricity, a third have great difficulty in obtaining drinking water.

As we predicted, the elections have not changed the day to day situation of the Iraqis, which has actually worsened, as Iraq has entered a new phase in the war of occupation, which kills even more people.

A new phase ?

Mohammed Hassan. Yes, since the battle of Fallujah in last November-December, the occupation army has passed from the strategy of « search and destroy » to that of « bodycounting ».

Until recently, the strategy of the Pentagon was to identify precisely those towns and villages where most of the attacks took place. Then, the US army would encircle a limited area, organise raids and make arrests to decapitate the resistance. This was « search and destroy », a destructive but limited war.

try and sway people. He truly thinks he can sway people with his 'charisma'.
