Perhaps this will be their next big surprise. The reason Bush keeps lying about how well it is going in Iraq is because of their "create a new reality" game, where they just say what they want you to believe. Everything is going miserably, the majority of Americans want us out, but Bush can't leave. He knows it...he has lots of Halliburton contracts still to be fulfilled. The military bases and the Super-Embassy aren't done yet. So instead, they'll declare victory, show staged parade footage, real parades in small home towns, bring back a boat load of soldiers for a some V-Day photo ops, and wait for their poll numbers to rise. They'll leave plenty of troops there to defend private construction projects, and the Defense Department will stop issuing briefings on Iraq. Just pretend we left and say the remaining forces are bare-bones peace keeping troops.
His lunatic fringe base will believe the victory stuff, and will be ready to jump all over us like pigs on shit with lots of "AH DONE TULD YOU SO!" and the Corporate Media will broadcast it 24/7. And while it won't bring Bush up above 50% -- too many people are already on to him to be able to pull this off -- he'll get close enough to THE MARGIN OF ERROR to make the computer assisted razor-thin Jeb Victory in 2008 seem perfectly plausible. If he does it soon enough, or maybe even in two phases, they can pull the same crap with the mid-terms, too.
Diebold and ES&S are probably working on it right now. Warren Mitofsky laid new groundwork to plant the seeds of doubt within America. Remember, these fuckers are evil.
