Poll question: Unofficial petition to all Democratic leaders:
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 07:00 PM by BullGooseLoony
Either leave Dean alone, or face breaking the party in half.

Please make a comment of some kind below as a "signature" if you're going to sign this petition.

4. Yeah, I'm looking for a better statement.
I don't think I'm the one to write it. But the votes themselves are what matter. They'll get the idea.

5. I am weighing in as a pro-Dean supporter on the issue of taking
it to the Republicans. They dish it out so let them have some back. Go Dean. If you Dems have a problem with Dean and his approach, tell Dean, not the media.

9. I'm Not even a "Deaniac" but still Dean speaks for me!
How on earth can anyone in their right mind accuse Howard Dean of being too inflammatory??

Does anyone remember how New Gingrich instructed Republican candidates to use words like treacherous, sick and depraved to describe Democrats?

Does anyone making such ridiculous charges against our Party's leader ever turn on the radio, read the newspaper, watch the TV news and hear the nonstop right-wing hate speech?

Dean is not perfect. But he is building a truly democratic-Democratic Party.. That is good enough for me

Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 06:37 PM by spaniard
any Dean supporter (meaning supporter of Dean ABOVE and BEFORE the party) who thinks they could take half the party with them is flattering themselves.

Of course, even if they could convince 1 or 2% of the party to leave (a very liberal estimate) because their feelings were hurt, they'd forever be branded as the group who handed power to the GOP for the next generation.

I'm a "Dean as DNC chair" supporter. I'm a solid Democratic loyalist but sorry folks, Dean ain't all that!

I would love to see some sort of verification that Dean supporters could take half the party.

Won't hold my breath on THAT one. But some can never provide verification for their wild claims and don't expect you to, either.

22. Yeah, wild claims like 1 or 2%? THAT is fucking RIDICULOUS.
That's like living on Mars shit.

About a fifth of our party is comprised of hardcore Dean supporters from the primaries, who would all be gone instantly if they tried to get rid of Dean. On top of that, another full half of the party was supporting Dean for chairman, for a number of reasons. Many of that group have now come to understand that the party will continue to go downhill until we stop triangulating, give serious opposition to the Republican agenda and fight for every state. Those people will, similarly, not be pleased in the least if they try to get rid of Dean.

That's about half of the party. Which I guess would correlate with the very large majority of DU that supports Dean in this matter, as well.

1-2%? Did you even think about that figure before you spat it out?

23. hysterical!

Let's just say your unsupported claim of 1/5 of the party being Dean supporters is true... which it isn't... (and supporting someone in the primaries and for DNC chair is waaaaay different than supporting splitting the party.)

A major pew research piece found that only 13% of Dean supporters would prefer a third party.

http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=240

So, at best, you could only pull 13% of your unsupported claim of 1/5 of the party.

Nice try, though.

I might rephrase a few of his less memorable quotes, but the man's basically spot on.

24. this get in line or else stuff is ridiculous
" beware of those who follow blindly"
If he says something stupid he's going to get criticized for it. This is the big leagues he's playing in now. He's got to get more circumspect in his public statements or he will be driven out by Dems, not by republicans.
Unity is a worthwhile goal, uniformity is poison.

from irrelevence. If they don't start acting like an opposition party what good are they?
