Senate Just Adjourned. No Kerry Speech Today.
Frist announced that the Senate will convene tomorrow morning at 9:45 a.m. He asked that the period for morning business be dispensed with and to proceed directly to the nomination of Janice Rogers Brown. The cloture vote will be held at 12:00. If cloture wins, they will proceed to an up-or-down vote on Brown. Then they will proceed to debate and cloture vote on William Pryor.

So Kerry will have to go to the Floor tomorrow and ask for time "as if in morning business", if he's going to give his speech tomorrow.

1. Randi's right, the Senate Dems will never do anything worth a shit
That's why I'm glad we've got people like Howard Dean, John Conyers, and Dennis Kucinich to smack them people in the mouth.

2. It was announced earlier
Over and over again, Kerry isn't even in DC today. His office said he would speak on DSM some time this week. He never said he'd do it today, he actually never even said he'd speak to it on the floor of the Senate. He said he was going to address it when the Senate reconvened this week. And it's been confirmed that he will. People need to chill out and pay attention to what's going on before they post.

3. Believe it or not, my thoughts were the
same as yours. I only posted this when the Senate adjourned so people would stop waiting for it. Sorry. I don't think I will be posting anymore.

6. That was a generic bitching out
Please don't take it personally. It really wasn't directed at you.

4. Thank You!
It would seem that we are so impatient to hear what Kerry has to say that our enthusiasm gets the better of us. I think he is getting everything together for one cohesive discussion and it seems like every time we turn around, something just as damaging to this misadministration needs to be considered. I for one am happy he is taking some time to evaluate everything, he can take as long as he needs to built his case.

7. And so did Ron Wyden.
Point being, nobody knows when Kerry is going to come to the Floor, if ever, to talk about the DSM. And even if he does, he takes maybe 15 or 20 minutes and rants about it. Then what? Maybe nobody pays any attention. Speaking about it on the Senate Floor means jackshit if no one pays attention or the news media doesn't report on it -- which they probably won't.

8. Off the record
An off the record source told me today that this issue will be addressed at the appropriate time. This week's Senate agenda is the judicial nominees and possibly Bolton.

Kerry returned to DC late this afternoon from MA. I'll have a head's up on when this will happen and will post here when I do.

For what it's worth, the schedule looks pretty tight this week. There are some really decent hearings going on. (I know some people don't follow the hearings and stuff, but I do. Kerry is on the Senate Finance Committee and this hearing is sscheduled for tomorrow:

Preventing the Next Pension Collapse: Lessons from the United Airlines Case

June 7 , 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in 628 Dirksen Senate Office Building
http://finance.senate.gov/sitepages/hearing060705.htm

I know it's not DSM, but the issue of defaulting on pensions is actually pretty important for a lot of Americans. I would like to see a strong Dem voice on this and some good questioning. It is possible that Kerry considers it important to attend this hearing. (Then the sub-committee that he is Dem Ranking Memeber of on the Foreign Relations committee in the afternoon. Those darn Senators manage to get themselves pretty busy sometimes. Sigh!)
