CBS Evening News Is Putting The Provebial Nail In Dean's Coffin...
Showing a poll that has Dean down by 22% while showing Kerry playing ice hockey saying he's "gliding to victory."

he hasn't got any more idea than you or I do whether NH is 'do or die' for Dr. Dean. :P

but his chances of becoming the nominee are as great as Lincoln Diaz Ballart and Ileana Ros Lehiten throwing a party for Castro....

Call it a 'gut feeling', but every time I see Dr. Dean on TV, I just don't see a political 'corpse' yet. :)

Kinda reminds me of Dole in his 96 race against Clinton...

The candidate is always the last to know....

Who know after his concession speech performance he can go on tour with the "are you ready to rumble" guy...

19. Dean should not drop out period.
He needs to run to build a populist radical center
that will eventually retake the Democratic party after
some blow dry Senater leads us to an agreeable defeat next fall.

I hope it doesn't happen but if it does it should be the LAST
time the establishment apologists get the node.

6. It's Not About Showing
It's about winning...

Clinton was able to spin a second place showing in NH to a win because he was a southerner who lost the state to a neighboring senator...

This is Dean's Super Bowl....

8. A strong second could keep Dean in the race.
Anything less is devastating. Conversely, if Clark or Edwards finishes below third, they are in trouble.

21. I don't agree.
Second place in NH will be a big blow - especially given the lead that he had only a couple of weeks ago. If he can't win in his own backyard, it will be hard for him to convince people he will be a contender anywhere else in the country.

23. I said a STRONG second.
A very weak second won't do too well, but it will get his name in the paper. Whoever finishes fourth or below is done.

12. I just can't agree.
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 06:48 PM by Cuban_Liberal
The reason is simple: a win on 2/3 in ANY significant contest--- AZ, SC, etc.--- propels Dean into the winner's circle, and he's still got a bank FULL of money. NH, like Iowa, is over-emphasized, IMO. The primaries are much more front-loaded than in 2000, and a loss doesn't neccessarily knock you out, and a win doesn't neccessarily crown you as king.

28. If Kerry or Edwards have the top spot on the Democratic ticket
many anti-war Dems will not come out to vote in November.

While I am fully aware the DLC is brainwashing the base to think we have to come out if only to vote against Bush* (overlook the Iraq Resolution and just focus on defeating the Repubs), this will not fly with those of those who see the candidates in terms of the issues they supported.

Split the party if you must by running someone who will suppress the vote turnout, and when you lose in November, thank only yourself.

26. A bit melodramatic.
I just plain don't agree. this is an entirely new political dynamic this year. IA and NH are finally being recognized for what they are0--- quaint, but politically-insignificant elections, considering the grand scheme of the new front-loaded primary season.

37. Your posts on this topic are.. interesting.
I'm finding your photo of Robert F. Kennedy as your avatar to be interesting... I'd hardly believe that he would spread such unkindness toward Howard Dean as you have here. I'm always fascinated by people's choice of avatars.

If you dont' like Dean. Groovy. But why continually post things over and over in a thread like that? Loving the unity here...

25. Maybe maybe not.
He has added 50000 to the online rolls this week
even since his campaign "tanked".

He needs to build up a movement to pick up the party
if the blow dry brigade drops the ball again.

He should get the delegates for negotiation at the
convention if no one gets the majority.

That could make the difference between one ticket and another.
