EVERYTHING'S UNDER CONTROL
When to disturb the president
TO: The staff
FROM: Karl Rove, White House deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to the president
RE: Bicycle protocol
First, please allow me once again to offer my thanks to all of you for your calm and professional demeanor during the recent evacuation of the White House, the Capitol and Supreme Court caused by an errant Cessna.
As you may know, we are facing lingering questions -- primarily by people who wish to smear the president and tear down this country -- about the way we handled this incident.
The president, you'll recall, was not told of the pilot's misadventure or the subsequent evacuation of 30,000 government employees until roughly 50 minutes after the drama began.
Rather than interrupt him with the news, we chose to let him finish his bike ride in a Maryland park.
Please let me assure you that everything was under control, despite what some people may imply.
