Poll question: Can you live on $292 a month? GOP cuts ask disabled elderly
Edited on Tue May-31-05 12:12 PM by usregimechange
On the Missouri Baby Blunt Medicaid Cuts:

"About 60,000 people will be eliminated because of the new income restrictions. Before the cuts, for instance, Medicaid covered those earning less than 75 percent of the poverty level. The new cap has been reduced to 23 percent. Consequently, a single parent with two children can earn no more than $292 a month to be eligible for Medicaid; for a mother with three kids, the lid is about $342, although her children still would be covered."

1. The ONLY was someone could survive on that is via rent subsidy and
food stamps, and even then I'm not sure it's possible!

4. You couldn't pay child care!
A monthly income like that only allows someone to work if they can do some kind of tradeoff, like one person workd daylight and watches the others kids at night, and the same for the person who works night turn. You CAN'T pay child care, or anything else. The amt. of $$ only covers the bare minimum like food, and something for subsidized housing if you can find something really cheap in your area.

6. And if someone worked, then they wouldn't get the lowered payment either.
Of course no one can live on it. It's not even a realistic question in my opinion. We are being reduced to "asses" to even entertain the conversation of whether we could live on that much a month. It's moot. It's a joke. It's diversionary. It's everything wrong.

It's INHUMANE.

5. What happens to my very elderly aunt...
... who is presently not on Medicaid but plans to be on it soon because she is in a nursing home that charges $5300 per month? Her social security income is $600 per month. This is not a rhetorical question. There must be hundreds of thousands of the elderly in a similar situation.

7. Most people couldn't live on that in 1947.
My neighbor who's 80 is here and I just showed this to him. He said that him and his wife at the time only made about that much per month in 1947 when he got out of the service. He said it was tough for them to make it on that kind of money back then just for perspective.

I know I'll be doing my part in '08 to vote Blunt out of office!!!

18. The only way is if you didn't pay rent
or a mortgage. And had no modern conviniences like cell phones, internet, cable or a car. You sure as hell couldn't have kids. It would be a real strippped down existence. You basically would have to have no life in order to live.

19. There's another option
Use the money to buy a shotgun and a ski mask, and just take up robbing fucking banks for a living.

Worst case, you get caught and live on the state's dime the rest of your life. A person might live better in jail than on $300 a month. You'd certainly eat better...
