So I was IMed from Germany by an Army guy
Edited on Mon May-30-05 03:35 AM by Clark2008
Didn't know him from Adam.

Looked at his profile. Damn, he was married. I thought :eyes:

Turns out that he'd just gotten back from Iraq and was at work. He was looking around the Yahoo sites and saw I as a Clark supporter. He said the guy is brilliant and a kind man. But mostly, he wanted to connect and tell me that most of the Army stationed in Europe hates Bush and could I please get the word out. He said morale is low and to keep pushing. He added that he'd never once voted Dem until 2004.

It's Memorial Day - I'm respecting his wishes.

1. Thanks for this post!
Good to know he's seen the light and is now voting Dem. Also interesting that we are hearing MORE stories of the military hating Bush! Ahh....we knew it!

2. Yes, THANK YOU.
It's great that you decided to share him with us; except, it so hurts me to read your post about his comments regarding morale being low (especially at this time). That's very unfortunate.

3. It's so sad to hear about the low morale, but thank you
In a way I think it would be better for these guys and gals if they never awakened to the truth. Just like Vietnam, they'll forever be haunted by the things they did and saw, and the lives lost, all for a lie.

My heart goes out to them in support. We need to bring them home, now!

12. Yes, thank you for posting this.

It's such a shame that their lives and safety are repeatedly compromised for the sake of a viperous knot of lies. They don't deserve this. For the service and sacrifice they're contributing - they DON'T deserve this. Neither do the rest of us, either.

4. Interesting...they must feel so isolated and 'trapped' there.
It must have been uplifting for him to talk to you, to meet another Clark supporter and spread the word about their feelings. My heart goes out to all the men and women serving.

14. Thank you for posting and honnoring this man's wishes
Everyday the "news" is peppered with stories painting our sevice personel as being supportive of * and the war. If a person were not plugged into indepentant news sources & forums like DU, they would undoubtably believe propaganda being catapulted at us from the pentagon & the WH.

With good fortune these men & women serving in the military overseas will come home to join other vets who are speaking out, speaking up, & speaking truth to power. Betrayal creates strong reaction in people, and when our military returns to learn just how badly they have been betrayed by this administration there will be hell to pay.

22. I'm sure this has been posted somewhere, but for those concerned
about this infamous, tragic low morale among the troops problem, there's always booksforsoldiers.com. That can be good for boosting a person's morale.

27. booksforsoldiers.com
Edited on Tue May-31-05 04:17 PM by CarolNYC
I love this site and sent a number of care packages through it last year. Unfortunately, because of some problems that arose from releasing soldiers' addresses to anyone on the internet, you now have to register, fill out an application and get it notorized, and pay a fee for the application to be processed. Still, it's a great site.

Also, you can adopt soldiers (or veterans)through the angelsncamouflage.org site.

I know there are other sites as well.

25. I'm actually not surprised.
The few election results that were released in any sort of recognizable format were heavily in favor of Kerry. Unfortunately it was a very small sampling of the military vote but I suspect representative. The counties in NJ that reported the military vote came in something like over 2-1 in favor of Kerry.

Not that morale is low, of course, but that there are GIs taking the risk to get the word out. They need our support so bad.
