A request: Translations of pet names, and their history.
Hi there,

I'm fairly new here.

I read almost hundreds of posts a day. Some of the names, I've figured out. Others, I have no idea.

I'd like to propose a stickythread that just has a list of the names and their meanings so new folks can cross-reference who we're mad at. :-)

For instance, I think I figured out:

BFEE as Bush Family Evil Empire.
* is Bush, but I don't know why.

But who the heck is tweety, etc.

I went through the FAQ, and it's not there, so maybe I'm not enough of a true believer to "get it" yet.

Any direction to an existing thread of this sort would be greatly appreciated.

But looks to be useful, thank you!

Into the Bookmarks Toolbar it goes.

12. easiest way to use it is just click the letter of the alphabet of the
acronym you want and read away LOL

it's very helpful to newbies, so pass it one next time you see a newbie that needs it (as it was passed to me when I was a newbie) :)

4. Acronyms would be a good list as well...
MIHOP/LIHOP?

PS: Thanks, Chris Matthews, got it. I like the old Warner Brothers cartoons too much, so I won't be using that one myself. He's not cool enough to fit the bill.

11. Talk about recursion...
I used the amystrange link, looked up LIHOP, which referred right back to a thread.

At DU...

Called: For the newbies: DU terms to learn.

What a wild ride around the net tonight.

3. I have a few answers
* is for Bush because nobody likes to spell his name out. Many of us use euphemisms like "chimp" for the same reason.

Tweety is Chis Matthews (MSNBC) because he looks like him--big forehead, blonde, etc. and he is very chatty, like Tweety bird.

Anything else?

5. The * for Bush started after 2000. It started with Bush* and the *
was denoting that he was "president" but didn't actually win the election and was just appointed. Somewhere along the way the Bush* gave way to just *.

6. Got it. I like that one.
* = Not a real president, just one that was chosen by a few people, like Bolton in Florida.

Stupid chads.

13. actually IIRC we figured that since he was appointed by SCOTUS
on 2000, he should have an asterisk by his name, like some sports figures have for their records made under unusual circumstances.....

16. Didn't Gary Trudeau originate *
as the symbol for Bush in the comic, due to the fact that he will always have an asterisk by his name, since he was appointed by the supreme court rather than elected?

8. For BFEE, check out Kevin Phillips' American Dynasty...
He doesn't reference BFEE, but he presents the Bush family history. And "Pickles" is Laura. And she puts some folks in mind of the "Joker" from Batman. :-)

10. Jack Nicholson deserves better than to be in the same sentence as her.
But I saw the picture, and I know what you mean.

I couldn't help hear "If you gotta go, go with a smile!"
