Snowflakes Frozen Embryo Adoption Program: the new lebensborn

Counterpoint to the NAZI program of exterminating Jews and other groups considered to be sub-human was the Lebensborn program, a secret NAZI program to enrich German racial lines with pure Nordic Aryan blood. The Lebensborn program was a pet project of SS Reichsführer Himmler. The program was launched in Germany in a small way to encourage and assist German girls to give birth to racially pure children, even if they were unmarried. Snowflakes Frozen Embryo Adoption Program

Embryos preserved in frozen storage offer great hope for life and for families facing fertility challenges. When a family has been successful in having a child through in vitro fertilization, embryos are often cryo-preserved, resulting in the question of what to do with them. These frozen embryos can be the hope of a child for an infertile couple. Embryo adoption shares this wonderful hope with others.

In 1997, Nightlight began the Snowflakes Frozen Embryo Adoption Program, which is helping some of the more than 400,000 frozen embryos realize their ultimate purpose – life – while sharing the hope of a child with an infertile couple. In addition to your physician, you need to trust the people you choose to help you in these important decisions.

Seig Heil!

2. I dont see anything wrong with it.
It's just trying to save every embryo that's a little crazy. If there are loving homes for them, why not. I'm just not sure that there's a home for all of the embryos. Then we get into the issue of "baby selling".

This is a program to grow white babies. True, they have a different adoption program for other races, but I have yet to see one non-white snowflake baby.

10. Look left of center near the front - I had the same thought and had to
look very closely myself.

I've been laughing about this for days now - there's a RW nutter in the office currently trying to get preggers the old-fashioned way using IVF (it's her hubby's fault - vasectomy after his 1st marriage). She is an adamant pro-lifer yet has no problems with flushing unused embryos down the drain.

I compared this practice to abortion - what's the difference between an implanted embryo and one in a dish (not great logic, but neither is the pro-life argument) - and she went through the roof. It was great fun watching her come unglued. Her reason for flushing them is the cost of keeping them viable. Raising kids is expensive too, but this was lost on her.

6. 400,000?
Even though Concerned Women for America is touting they have "homes" for 90% of them, I really doubt 90% of the couples want to donate them. My guess is that majority will just want them to remain frozen or discarded, followed by donating to research, followed by adoption.

Call me a skeptic, but that is what I think.

7. I agree. Are the biological parents of 400,000 frozen embryos all willing
Edited on Thu May-26-05 02:54 PM by BrklynLiberal
to go along with this? Are they all willing to have their genetic children be "adopted" by other people without their knowlege and/or permission? Have they all been given the alternative choice whether to have the embryos donated for research?
This entire "project" is a political hoax, and merely another way to stop stem cell research and continue the fight to limit anything that even smacks of women's right to choose.

11. They claim to have a "meet the adoptive parents" program, but...
...it's funny how they don't pay the Biological "parents" for the frozen embryos. They consider it part of the original invetro costs.

4. Although *hugely* in favor of stem cell research
I don't see a problem with the idea of using the embryos to help infertile couples have a child. Sure, these couples could adopt, but some people would like to go through the whole pregnancy thing.

I don't see that it has to be an either/or proposition. Either way, we're using the embryos for something good, rather than just incinerating them, which helps nobody.

8. It's a pity the children currently available for adoption
don't evoke the warm and fuzzies that blobs of cells in a deep freezer seem to. I'm sick of hearing about embryo love. Let's take care of the needy "post embryo's" - the "melted snowflakes." And not just the white ones.

13. What a croc
First pro lifers get grief for not adopting the embryos. Now we find that there exists a program geared toward just that and instead of saying "gee I guess we were wrong when we claimed they don't adopt them" it is "they are a bunch of racists for adopting them" Let's be blunt here. Your problem with these people is that they are pro life and anything they do will thus be looked upon as evil by you.

15. No, my problem with them is they are trying to control me
They are trying to tell me what I can or cannot do with my own body.

That is evil.

It has nothing, nothing, nothing to do with saving "babies" and everything to do with invading my privacy and trying to keep me subjucated to a man's whim.

The "pro-lifers" are liars, plain and simple and we know it and are trying to out them by challenging them to adopt, etc. The fact that some individuals do follow through doesn't change the group motivation. I think the lack of minorities is very telling.

16. They're pro life?
What the hell does that mean anyway? Do you have to be against anyone having the right to choose abortion to be pro life? If you are against legal abortions but also against sufficient health care and housing for the living, are you still pro life? If you choose to not have an abortion, but don't feel the right to choose for your neighbor, are you pro life?

If you don't save sperm or have eggs extracted months you aren't trying to conceive, are you pro life? How about if you use IUDS, which stop implantation but not conception?

Isn't pro life really a term that would be supportive not just of the right to live, but live a quality life? Pro life is such a wrong term to describe the difference. We are all pro life and those who support the right to choose are not pro abortion.

And on this issue I'm sure women for and against the right to choose would be willing to try to birth these embryo's. The process of retrieving them is outrageously expensive so many infertile women would relish the chance.
But...should that come before adopting children already alive and needing a home?

17. any point you are making may well be valid
but of course irrelevent to my post. My post didn't say that the snowflake program was a wise or good thing. I merely said that it wasn't racist and that people here should be consistent in that you can't criticise a group of people for not doing something and then turn around and criticise them when they do what you criticised them for not doing in the first place. I, like you, would prefer that live children get adopted first. But given some of the high profile problems that adoption can have, I can see why some parents might choose this instead.

19. Dare I quote my old friend, Alan Keyes?
"If we do not know who the mother is, who the father is, without knowing all the brothers and sisters, incest becomes inevitable."

Followed by his lesser known quote, "Oh, we're talking about fundy-neocons this time? Never mind."

20. Someone told me today that only about 40% of the frozen
ones that are implanted survive the implantation and become viable pregnancies. That is not a very good statistic. This was someone whose sister is going through the process.

21. 40% is For Pregnancies Only; Less Than 25% Result in Live Birth
So implanting the precious widdle poppets is condemning upwards of 75% of them to oblivion. Oh, the humanity!

23. I have at least 500,000 eggs in my ovaries! Can I sell options on them?

Sure, my tubes are tied, but hear this out: I have 2 kids--oops--prototypes. They're gorgeous! Healthy as horses! Honor roll students! Dutch/Swedish/Scotch mix! Why, my eggs are Grade A in the open markets of freedomocracy/capitalism-anity! I'm in the mandatory amniocentisis age range, but that screams "close-out discount", which encourages the buyers' sense of urgency.

Why pay for the rights to control my eggs, you ask? After all, they're not fertilized, and after many years of marriage and the tube-tying, I've got birth-control covered. Odds are low that any of these primo eggs will ever be fertilized...

Well, guess again!

Let's say I croak. Soon. It could happen. Couldn't my eggs then be harvested for the market? (Ooops , I meant for the glory of Jesus, sorry.) Hell, in Bushworld there's no permission necessary, particuliary if The President and Congress are doing Gods Work On Earth. BTW, it seems GW & Congress' god is a real asshole, but that's another thread.

Face facts, girls: our eggs REALLY belong to Jesus and his self-appointed posse, and when GW and Jesus decide that they need more white babies around here, the Church and our government will find a way to accomplish the mission.

Potential investors shouldn't worry about rules or laws changing against their favor. It's guaranteed that GW won't outsource or privatize my reproductive capacity, even to ME -- it's just too important! Government MUST stay involved, lest I do something that offends Gawd.

So make a bid. You could have the rights to half a million potential "babies"! Could pay off bigtime, and at minimum it'll guarantee your entrance to heaven.
