Kerry's New PAC Website
Keeping America’s Promise
26 May 2005

John Kerry’s new grassroots website is now live… check it out here ...

From the new KeepingAmericasPromise.com:

Keeping America ’s Promise (KAP), under the leadership of Senator John Kerry, is building a national grassroots organization dedicated to:

* bringing change to America by supporting Democratic candidates at every level of government;
* supporting state and local efforts to strengthen the Democratic Party’s grassroots organization ; and
*promoting an issue agenda that addresses America’s biggest challenges.

John Kerry believes that more than anything, Americans expect their elected leaders to have the courage to tackle the real problems that affect their everyday lives.

Keeping America ’s Promise will support the election of the leaders America needs today – and will seek to hold Washington officials accountable for their actions.

1. Hey Goddess
Can you tell me if this PAC replaces "Friends of John Kerry" or is it in addition to that other one. This one seems to be dedicated to grassroots and such, whereas the other seems more dedicated to multiple activities.

Anyway, having had a quick peek at the site, I gotta say it looks like Kerry and Dean have been talking. To me, it looks like this PAC goes well with what Dean is also trying to do within the party. I like the goals.

I wish both of them godspeed.

(ps. I posted this at Kos for you, dear.)

Edited on Thu May-26-05 04:28 AM by LittleClarkie
Damn thing's stalled in court, but it's still alive. The lawyer's name is Don McTigue.

2. He's co-sponsor of an election reform bill with Hillary and Boxer to name a couple.

So he's still working on getting every vote counted.

3. S & B is B & S. It's just a stupid frat, for freak's sake. Show me one, just one credible source for that crapola where the author doesn't look like he/she has crazy-glued the tinfoil hat to their head.

Blaming Kerry instead of Bush is like blaming the person who go raped instead of the person who did the raping. "Kerry was askin' for it, I tell ya. I'd bought him dinner and everything."

I gotta admit "Tell John Kerry not to help build up the grassroots" is a ludicrous statement to make. "Oh no, Mr. Kerry. Don't help us. We'd rather lose more elections than let YOU help." Riiiiight. That's just what cousin Dubya wants Kerry doing, building up the grassroots. That'll show those DemocRATS.

It's kind of cool. You can see who's already contributed. You can see who the PAC has already contributed to. I see Hillary got some already. Sen. Byrd too and Edward Kennedy. Plus some names I don't recognize.

I see David Thorne is the Treasurer. I'm going to have to start calling him Tonto. He always seems to be there, bless his heart.

There's still legal action in Ohio. November 3rd didn't stop that. There was simply no way for him not to concede unless he had an instant, incontrovertible proof of fraud on 11/3. And they didn't.

14. I tried telling his senate office I had proof ....
..... the Ohio Democratic party I had proof & his State HQs
top people and nobody did shit. This proof was not of the
wide eyed "I saw a strange man run through my yard @ midnight
and now my computer is down ...... he must been a neo con
working to stop me posting the truth." But real honest to God
Smoking Gun stuff. Do you have any idea what that has done
to me mentally?

When I stood there on the Ohio State Campus 5 days before the
election and knew that the repugs were going to do any and
everything to steal that election I felt proud seeing him speak and
promise no retreat no surrender but on 11/3 and 1/6/05 he
didn't back it up. And that in turn made me (and in the big picture I don't
matter) and a lot of others feel abandoned. So the NY Times, Fox,
CNN, Washington Post, and so on could brand "us" liberal bloggers
and self deluding folks who don't know when to quit.

Don't get me wrong the Senator is a hero, a fighter, and somebody
whose core values seem damn good and i wish him well but
the wounds of the campaign are deep and real.

Best to you.

46. The evidence was strong enough ...
... to have the judge dismiss the case against Arnebeck, Fitrakis et al, which suggests to me that the evidence documented the non-frivolous nature of the lawsuit. Also, my guess is that the Repug-dominated Ohio Supreme Court didn't want the 900+ pages to be aired publicly.

But too late. Much of the evidence has just been published in "Did George W. Bush Steal America's 2004 Election? Essential Documents". This 700+ page book makes a very compelling and well-documented case for the election theft. Of course, those of us who have been following the accumulation of the evidence (and have actually read it) were already convinced by the Conyers report and the multiple precincts documented in that report whose vote patterns defied logic.

If there isn't strong evidence, why has Katherine Blackwell continued to maintain a blanket prohibition against most 2004 election records being open to review by the public. Why?

20. Issues that matter ?? like 1600+ dead Americans, 100,000+ dead Iraqis ???
oops ... the Senator apparently does not consider the "war" in Iraq an "issue that matters" ... I applaud the issues that Kerry raised as important but i'm disgusted that he again has buried his head in the sand and failed to comment on the tragic occupation he and many other Democrats continue to support in Iraq ... if he's so proud of his continued support for bush's occupation of Iraq, why didn't he list Iraq as an "issue that matters" ???

from Arianna Huffington's recent column: "They have been surprisingly successful at battling Bush's domestic agenda, but if they're going to broaden their appeal they first have to broaden their battlefronts to include Iraq."

direct from Kerry's new website:

The Issues That Matter

Access to quality, affordable health care; strengthening America’s national security and homeland defense; supporting military families and veterans; working to make our nation energy independent; creating good jobs; improving our schools and ensuring that America’s democracy works for all its citizens – none of these are being effectively addressed by the Republicans in Washington today.

Only "crazy" Democrats like John Conyers talk about things like election reform or the UK memo.

I'm glad kerry is speaking out on the issues that his focus group testers have told him are safe, but someone high-profile does need to speak up more on election reform- I agree with that.

Having said that- it is good that Kerry is staying in the spotlight and keeping in contact with, or at least giving messages to his base.

While I thought it was the perfect day to talk about minority disenfrancisment, apparently others did not. What's a person to do. Even after the election, I have the impression of a pushmepullyou. Election fraud, the war, the environment, health care, Bolton, small businesses etc. If he's talking about one of them, he's supposed to be talking about one of the others. And woe to him, as I said, if he speaks to the wrong crowd on the wrong day.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there is still the election reform bill that he co-sponsored with Clinton and the lawsuit in Ohio. It doesn't seem he's ignored altogether.

What to do when you're blasted for not speaking out for minorities, and then when you do speak out, it's on the wrong day and you're accused of playing politics.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

Speaking of which, appropriately enough, I was just reading in the NY Daily News about Kerry and Al Sharpton. It's only 4 paragraphs so I'll just excerpt it here.

"Meanwhile, Sharpton was among the 20 or so black leaders Sen. John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry invited to dinner at their D.C. home Wednesday.

Kerry also invited them to critique his failed presidential campaign. Several told him they'd wished he had waited longer before conceding Ohio and that he didn't reach out early enough to minority voters.

"He took the criticism very well," said Sharpton. "He gave no indication about whether he was going to run for President again."

Asked if he'd support the senator, Sharpton said, "I haven't decided whether I'm going to run again."

won't get Democrats elected ... let's be honest here, Democrats are not showing any independent thinking on Iraq (as a Party) and they are just going along with bush's agenda ... pretending an issue doesn't exist doesn't make it go away and it certainly doesn't earn the respect of the voters ...

step one to getting Democrats elected is having them show leadership not only on domestic issues, but on foreign policy issues as well ...

i agree with Arianna Huffington who recently wrote: "They (Democrats) have been surprisingly successful at battling Bush's domestic agenda, but if they're going to broaden their appeal they first have to broaden their battlefronts to include Iraq."

But as for election fraud, there is a pending lawsuit in Ohio, election reform legislation that Kerry has co-sponsored, and a speech Kerry gave on Martin Luther King Day that he got blasted for.

I know there was nothing right after the election. And without hard, take-it-to-court evidence, I don't think he will. But there is that lawsuit still pending in Ohio. It looked like K/E went to court to try and get evidence from the election. Damn thing's stalled though, which I'm sure has something to do with Blackwell, that bastard.

I do wish there was more emphasis on the war, but maybe there's stuff going on that we don't get to see.

Best off to watch what's going on, try to dig beneath the surface when we can, and work in our own way. So far for me, that's meant joining the party, writing one article and proofreading the local Democratic newsletter, and that's just about all. It ain't much, but it's more than I did before.

Edited on Fri May-27-05 05:12 PM by karynnj
At this point it is too early to worry about 2008. This effort is to back candidates in 2005. I live in NJ. I signed up because I would like to be involved. I signed up with this Kerry group because I think much of what he has said about community grassroots and felt needs makes a huge amount of sense. I assume that they will coordinate with Corzine, the likely Democratic candidate.

Now, obviously I could sign up to help with the existing local Democratic organization - but I saw last year that they actually had very little for volunteers to do. Why not sign up with a local candidate or Crzine directly? Because the Kerry thing is likely to be trying to build infrastructure for more than one election and he has a vested interest in doing it. (I'm also curious to see if they actually do anything. I signed up for DFA, and never heard anything about local efforts - although I recently found out a local state assembly candidate is DFA endorsed.)

I can honestly say that the strength of Kerry's message after the election that we have to get organized and we have to fight for issues that are important has motivated me to want to take the steps to get involved.
