The compromise hurt the right, but they will get stronger (oh no!)
Edited on Wed May-25-05 01:52 PM by LoZoccolo
The Republicans could have used the nuclear option, but now they are stopped from doing so. Now part of their base is really upset, and calling the Republicans that they've elected spineless.

Now this is the scary part: those people in the Republican Party who are upset, might move over to the Constitution Party, which will take a stronger stand than the Republican Party, and tons of people will vote for the Constitution Party! Since they're not afraid like the Republicans, the Constitution Party will be able to capture the vital center, and storm through the elections in 2006 and 2008.

I just hope a parcel of them don't move over, because then what'll we do? I haven't been this scared since before the debates, when I realized that George W. Bush* would wipe the floor with Kerry because he is a master debater, who had never lost a debate. My posts about that ended up on some right-wing blogs because they saw the fear.

1. You are right.

Man, if conservatives ever left the Republican Party for, say, the Constitution party, we'd be fucked. I pray ever night they don't do this.

2. It's set up a fight within the Repug Party -- McCain v. Frist
The moderates are going to have to fight for their party against the religious nuts. And I've heard Frist is planning on bringing up William Myers (nominee not covered by the compromise) after Memorial Day, so we're going to be facing the Nukyuler Option again fairly soon. We'll have to see what McCain and company do at that point.

3. Oh no! Fear the Constitution Party!
Don't throw me in the briar patch! Ahem, I mean, SAVE US FROM THE CONSTITUTION PARTY! They're even worse than the Republicans!

Yes, George was certainly a master debater, wasn't he. Rope a dope, that's what he did to poor John Kerry! Rope a dope!

4. Good heavens! Don't say so
The thought of countless radical right mouth breathers abandoning the GOP to join the super-duper COnstitution party just sends shivers down my spine.

Still, that is their right. If they really think Frist and co are spineless cowardly dogs who sold out the right, I think abandoning the GOP is the only ethical and moral thing to do.

After all, after 911 you have to put the good of the nation ahead of any party. If the GOP has sold out, its time to go.

5. All They Need is Jesse Ventura
He would siphon off half the Republican states. I was desperately wishing we would run.

6. Your first premise is wrong- it didn't hurt them one bit
They look like compromisers now. It's all an act. Never trust a Republican, particularly a neocon one.

7. You're supposed to say "I reject the premise of the original post".
That's the proper protocol.
