Poll question: Which party will push for significant troop reductions in Iraq first?
While it's true that there are people at both ends of the political spectrum calling for a withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, the idea has not caught on with the majority of elected officials in either of the two major parties.

At some point, most US forces will be withdrawn from Iraq. In your opinion, which party will ultimately be the driving force for withdrawal?

Please feel free to discuss your analysis ...

1. I said Republicans.
Because the Democrats will remain split. Half want to not rock the boat and "alienate" potential voters. Half will push for quick withdrawal.

When the Repugs make the decision, before the next elections, they'll be unified--and take the credit.

4. Neither
Tune in to the 2006 defense authorization debate in progress now in the house (CSPAN live). It is in both party's interest to suck up to the defense contractors and DoD for employment in their districts.

9. The people will first, most politicians think it is
a mistake to leave. I am sad to predict, it will start to happen when the US death toll reaches the 9/11 death toll.

10. As long as the DLC wins, the troops will remain in Iraq
Edited on Wed May-25-05 06:01 PM by IndianaGreen
It will take a Presidential nominee with the integrity of a Dennis Kucinich to admit the war is lost, and that the troops must come home at once.

Where is our DeGaulle?

11. Other.
Masses of people in the streets. And then both will stumble all over themselves having their staffs write up bills.
