We need a grassroots effort to increase voter turnout.

We need to get our friends and relatives, who do not vote, to register and vote in every election. We can't change the future if we don't work together.:grouphug:

1. we need candidates that are worth voting for first of all
when you have candidates like John Kerry, it doesn't give people very much motivation to go out and vote

2. That's the attitude that has
gotten us into this mess. If you can't vote for the candadate that you prefer, at least vote for the party you prefer. :banghead:

would have been better than what we got.

9. That's a given.
Of course, we need honest elections. But when a country like France has a 74% voter turnout, and the U.S. has a 54% turnout--that pitiful.

13. Voter turnout is reported differently in Europe IIRC
IIRC they usually measure the % of registered voters as the voter turout numbers, whereas in the US we measure the % of adults 18+.

Overall I think their turnout ends up being higher because of how much easier voter registration is, but I don't think the number is as drastic is commonly reported.

I fear we hit a ceiling in 2004 as far as voter turnout goes, with passions as high as they were.

If you can't motivate someone to get off their ass and oust Bush, what's going to get them to vote in another election?

7. and that's why people stayed in line for over 2 to 3 hours in Ohio
to vote, right? Or even 10 in the liberal college town?

5. And we need to push their lack of credibility.
I mean, they were wrong, about everything. Would you trust them again?

Push the credibility and their lack of it.

6. Isn't it a sad commentary that we need a grassroots effort....
to get out the vote, after all that has transpired? You would think people would be trampling over each other to get to the polls?

10. I agree.
I just don't get people who don't vote, but then complain about what transpires in our country. If they didn't vote--they should shut up and go register and head for the polls for the next election.

11. Young voters
If anything, we need to get everyone ages 18-34 out there voting. They're the ones that tend to vote most heavily democratic, but unfortunately they ar ealso the age group consistently with the lowest rates of voter turnout.

12. We need a grassroots effort to 'turn out' (impeach) Bushco first.
All the "voter turn-out" stuff is useless until the voting machines are fixed...and Bushco is out of the WH,and/or line of succession to the throne.

I just heard Shrub joking at a banquet in which he pointed toward several Bush brothers, male cousins, etc. in a family photo...which he jokingly referred to as Presidents "number 45, 46, 47, etc."
Though he was making a joke, clearly he was NOT joking.

Voter registration won't help us at all with that. Sorry.
