Over a month ago I called Sen. Domenici's office to find out what his position was on the "nuclear option" on filibusters. The aide there bemoaned the fact that all this upset was happening and said that, rest assured, Sen. Domenici has always voted with the best interests of the country and state in mind.
Today, I called again and a press release was just being issued. The woman read the section that was a direct parroting of the official party line--the Senator is going to vote AGAINST the rules allowing the filibuster. When I brought up the fact that back on 6/13/94 in Roll Call he had come out strongly AGAINST a plan to end the filibuster and this appeared to be a flip-flop, I was greet with icy silence.
I felt compelled to wonder aloud who he is really working for now and how everyone in that office can live with themselves. Still silent, the woman hung up the phone on me. It seems obvious that I was given the answer to my question--that Sen. Domenici apparently isn't interested in working as MY public servant....
