I was asking my SO the other day "how bad do they have to be" before a republican votes "NO" on a nominee?
then it occurred to me we have some responsibility here too, as in, "how bad does it have to be" when an out of control republican senate votes to change the very definition of Senate procedure directly along party lines in a way that ONLY benefits one party.
How bad does it have to be before our senators do something more radical than throw their hands in the air? Fillibuster seem kind of silly? What about if the republican majority voted to force every committee to seat a majority of republicans? Oh wait they already do that. What about if the republican majority voted to allow industry to set public policy? Woops, that one slipped right by.
What if the republican party voted to change the constitution for the first time in its history to remove the rights of a certain group of people? It's on its way.
HOW BAD DOES IT HAVE TO BE? What do we do if it gets only just a little worse and the republican majority makes belonging to an environmental group tantamount to terrorism and giving money to a democratic PAC a suing offense?
What drastic steps can a senate minority take when the shit hits the fan with these people who have executed a coup of America? Do we just give up and throw our hands in the air? Someone counsel me here. How bad does it have to be?
