#2 Official CSPAN2 Thread on Senate Judicial Noms
Edited on Wed May-18-05 10:03 AM by cyberpj
Specter gave a good speech encouraging voting but that party leaders release members from party line voters.

Wants everyone to vote their conscience.

Now giving background on Owens.....

He's more than entitled to have his opinon. It was very dishearting to me after such a non-partisan speech that his opinon landed squarly in the R's favor.

11. I have to go to work now - can someone keep these
threads going? Not a lot of action now, I know, but it's still better to have all the info on a single thread I think.

Usually create a new one when they get to 80-100 posts each so people on dialup can participate easily.

If not.

Oh well.......

24. We ought to spend a little more time wondering if we're on God's
side and a little less claiming he is on ours. This from a quote of Lincoln's.

He's going after the religious right--Robertson, etc.

I hope Senator Leahy can inject some form of conscience into the Senate today.

Edited on Wed May-18-05 12:20 PM by TahitiNut
California submits all state judges and justices to a Yes/No vote on a cyclic basis on their ballots. Judges are never opposed on the ballot.

One Chief Justice and six associate justices are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments. The appointments are confirmed by the public at the next general election; justices also come before voters at the end of their 12-year terms. Voters vote "Yes" to confirm justices; vote "No" to oppose confirmation.

The issue is not how hard, or nice her early life was. It's about her decisions as a judge.

Are we grading a grammar school aged kid, or a federal judge for a lifetime appointment?

81. Go Schumer!
Strong start from Schumer! Abuse of power! Temper tantrum! They want their way all the time! Approval of Republican leadership going down and down - Schiavo, threats on judges, SS, etc.

President has "reaped what he has sown" - no consultation, no discussion, nominees "way over at the extreme."

87. Schumer's doing a good job
pointing out there's nothing in the Constitution saying judges should have a majority vote. 'They' like interpreting things into the Constitution that are not there.
