Give 'em hell, Harry! It is normal for committees to meet outside the Senate while debate is going on on the floor. Harry Reid just said not so fast, my friend.

Debate on Priscilla Owen to begin shortly.

1. A shot across the bow
that's what that was....just a sample of what will happen to all courtesy votes ("Without objection", etc) if the the nuclear option is passed.

Give 'em hell Reid.....

I'll e-mail his office and let him know we are with him in spirit....

2. Damn, he's good!
Holy poo--will the Dems shut down Congress? the entire government?

If it's over the nuclear option--it's worth it.

Reid is the kind of feisty Democrat I remember from my childhood, taggin along with my mom to volunteer events.

4. Reid said gov't will continue to operate on critical items
Edited on Wed May-18-05 08:52 AM by Justitia
Like allowing the bills to be paid, matters of nat'l sec (military), etc. This is not like when Gingrich shut down the gov't.

The DEMS are not shutting down the gov't at all.
They are simply going to slow the wheels of business, by disallowing the normal procedural "shortcuts" given as a matter of courtesy, to expedite business. If they didn't do that, and the repubs go nuclear, the Dems wouldn't need to even show up at all.

We will, in fact, have ONE PARTY RULE in the USA, with no Dems participating AT ALL in our government.

Edit to add: Now that I think about it, considering all the damage the repubs are doing to EVERY branch of gov't - maybe we should just stay in "nuclear winter" until we run them out. Nothing happening in Congress is the probably the best outcome we could hope for until we throw the bums out.

8. So IOW the only things that won't get acted upon on the social issues
And this will help us how?????? If the Military gets its funding and government bills get paid what more do the Republicans want? They are giddy with joy over this developement.

9. No new awful legislation re: Soc Security, abortion, for example
I'm not really advocating nuclear winter, but just envisioning a short respite from more godawful legislation being crammed down our throats. I'm sure that is just a fantasy - I was being somewhat facetious....

3. And Frist is (as ordered) talking about "Constitutional Option"
Flopjunkie, should you start an "official" Cspan2 Judicial Noms thread?

5. Smart Move, Mr. Reid
He knows damn well that if there's a committee meeting going on with enough Democrats and moderate Republicans that Frist may damn well call a vote on killing the filibuster and trying to do it without a full Senate.

I wouldn't trust these bastards, either.
