China holds six-year old boy in jail for ten years over politics
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4551425.stm

A decade ago, a six-year-old boy was named by the Dalai Lama as a spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was nominated as the reincarnation of the Panchen Lama - the second-most important figure in Tibetan religion, culture and politics after the Dalai Lama himself.

But China disagreed with the choice and arrested the boy a few days later.

Mystery surrounds his fate and outside China he is known as one of the world's youngest political prisoners.

1. Didn't the Chinese declare their own Panchen Lama?
I guess that idea went exactly nowhere among the Tibetan people.

2. It's just like Bush being "president".
It's not actually true, but no one is willing to remark upon it in polite company.

And in both cases, the future of the culture in question is at stake.

6. this is so sad
the true Panchen Lama is being denied his spiritual education which is essential to his position. And how will the next Dalai Lama be recognized?? :-(
