Here's a little talking point for the Dems re: Social Security
Either the Chimp is a dumb-ass (okay he is) or those IOUs he talks about when hyping privatized accounts aren't just worthless specs of paper in a file cabinet after all....

1. This is an excellent point.
It makes it obvious that he's consciously trying to mislead people on the SS issue. It's so good a point that the Repubs may not even try to spin it (how can they?) but instead will desperately try to ignore it and hope that it goes away. The Democrats need to talk about this loudly and insistently.

If the repubs do try to spin it, it will probably be some really desperate attempt at misdirection like: "The Demonrats are hypocritically complaining that Bush owns treasury notes. Well guess what, many of them also own them! Here's a list..."

Of course, that totally misses the point, but that never stopped them before.

2. and you see from the response to this post that simple solutions
for countering the Repugnican noise machine are more often than not the road not traveled by Democrats.

3. Its early. Please explain this for those of us who haven't had coffee yet.
I just don't get how the two tie together. It doesn't mean they don't; it just means I'm not sure what you are saying...? Thanks!

4. $4.95 million of Chimpy's savings are "worthless specs of paper"
I'm already on my second mug!

5. That's what funds social security T-notes. So even millionaires
prefer the insurance of holding government bonds to the "market"

6. I'll try to explain it
In his attempts to convince people that Social Security is facing a crisis, Bush has claimed that the SS funds are backed by nothing but a bunch of "worthless IOUs". The "worthless IOUs" he's refering to are treasury notes which, in reality, are anything but worthless. The fact that he himself has over $4.9 million invested in these supposedly "worthless IOUs" shows that he doesn't really believe his own rhetoric. Either that or he really is as big a fool as some people believe.

I think that us DUers should offer to help him out. We should offer to take all of that worthless paper off of his hands at a penny on the dollar. That's $49,000 for a pile of worthless paper. He'd be a fool to turn down the offer!
