Trying to Make Sense of BushCo's Base Closings
Edited on Fri May-13-05 01:10 PM by Sparkly
The closings might make sense if BushCo had such expert foreign policy strategies that people believed we're so peaceful, safe and non-invasive, we don't need as much military or defense capabilities.

The closings might make sense if the country had sacrificed to the bone on oil conservation and tax cuts, etc. and we still found ourselves in dire economic circumstances and approached this as a last resort (but the first resort should be rolling back the wealthy's tax cuts).

The closings might make sense if the Chimp had run on a platform of streamlined military, defense cuts, or scaled-back military deployments, but instead he ran as the War President with photo-ops in pseudo-uniforms and "support the troops" and phony pro-military rhetoric.

The closings might make sense if Republicans hadn't ranted and railed against Clinton for a decade, claiming he "gutted the military," or if they hadn't noticed that Gore proposed over twice as much funding for the military in 2000 than the Chimp did.

I just don't know what they're thinking, except that they are on track to "privatize" and outsource everything possible, including their wars.

Edited to add: I'm really hoping we hear from General McPeak, Admiral Crowe, and General Clark on this.

1. Exactly- Global Hegemons need Global bases.
And just think of all those construction contracts
for Halliburton!
They are already planning global gulags to store
detainees in.
Must have military bases along side them.
And since they don't give a crap about the
American people, why would they keep a military
worth a crap here to defend us?

2. They want permanent bases around the globe.
They don't feel it is necessary to have bases in the US anymore, all the wars are fought abroad anyway (well, except for that one that involved the terrorists). Their goal is to have a permanently mobile and active, large military fource stationed overseas and capable of conducting multiple, simultaneous theater wars. Don't believe me, look it up under the mission statements at the PNAC website. Yeah, people will be pissed when they realize that all their friends/family members in the military are shippin out for good.

3. Global war, everywhere, everyday
for the rest of our lives-
Personally, I don't think so.
I think the youth of our country are about to rise up
in resistance to the PNAC plans for their future.
Hope so.

4. Oh yeah, I don't think the Neocon plan will make it past '08
but that's the plan. Thankfully, the public won't go along with it.

5. I agree. Privatization & outsourcing.
They'll move in companies (like Halliburton) to do whatever "reconstruction" is possible, at a huge profit (and taxpayer expense); and they'll outsource, using fighters from other countries as much as possible. That's my hunch.
