Why I'm not that upset with Voinovich.
We can go on-and-on about how Sen. Voinovich is a loser for allowing the vote to go before the full Senate, I'm not that upset. And I'm not upset for 2 reasons:
1) It gives Sens. Boxer and Reid more opportunity to point out how incredibly unqualified this person is. Hopefully, this will call into question more of the scrub nominees in future votes. Afterall, if this guy is a complete loser, maybe people will wonder how many other totally incompetant persons scrub is nominating.

2) I'm more upset with people like Chafee. Voinovich basically gave him cover to vote his conscience in committee, but he ducked and went for the easy out. I guess Voinovich can take the heat, but Chafee is weak as water.

I do hope as this process moves forward and more people discover how poorly qualified for the job this man is, Senators like Snowe, Collins, Specter, Hagel (I truly believe Hagel is already going to vote against Bolton) and McCain join Voinovich, who I think will again vote against Bolton.

I'm not from Ohio and I don't know much about Voinovich, but for 24 hours he is my favorite pukie.

2. I agree. I am from Ohio, and when he first put this on hold I was
surprised -- but I was even more surprised today, given all he said, and the fact that immediately after he refused to vote the first time Republicans were emailing and calling him like crazy to tell him not to "cave" (or whatever). While I would have liked it to die in Committee -- this does give others the chance to tell it like it is.

3. Voinovich is a Republican, not a DUer
That he did what he did is actually extraordinary.

A taste of what can be done when there is actual bipartisanship.

Peace.

5. Here's press release from Catholics for Faithful Citizenship
"Senator Voinovich - A Profile In Courage"

"Courage is the virtue that President Kennedy most admired. He sought out
those people who had demonstrated in some way, whether it was on a
battlefield or a baseball diamond, in a speech or fighting for a cause, that
they had courage, that they would stand up, that they could be counted on."
- Robert F. Kennedy - December 18th, 1963, special forward to the Memorial
Edition of "Profiles In Courage".

We think President Kennedy would find such courage in the Republican Senator
from Ohio and fellow Catholic, George Voinovich. Today Senator Voinovich
showed tremendous courage as he spoke out during the confirmation hearing of
a man nominated to be ambassador to the United Nations.

The confirmation of this man by the Senate will result in disastrous events
at the United Nations. Instead of leadership, character and moral clarity at
the U.N., the United States will get quite the opposite. At a time when the
U.N. is looking for strong leadership and direction from our country, the
U.N. instead may soon get a representative that brings negativity and
division who will not work for the common good of all.

We applaud the courage of Senator Voinovich and commend him for living up to
his Catholic Faith and its Social Teaching. He spoke out at time in our
country where the voice of dissent is not welcome or accepted. Senator
Voinovich's character and courage is indeed a Profile in Courage.
