I totally agree, except for the hand-washing. Once Bolton's confirmed, the Senate won't mention him ever again. It will be like he just suddenly appeared at the UN building, pissing on the carpets and farting on crowded elevators, and no one will have the foggiest notion how such a character was let loose. Bolton? Who dat?

7. Don't let up on them

keep calling, keep expressing your opposition to Bolton, keep the pressure on. Many of the repubs have serious doubts about Bolton, it's not a given that the senate vote will go down on a party-line vote. Voinovich, I'm sure, is going to vote against. So might Hagel and Chaffe. Now we need to counter the right-wing Bolton supporters with our own pressure to all the senators.
