I am set up to give $15/month to the DNC, thru credit card auto-billing

When they had that "send your suggestions to Chairman Dean" thing going, I sent them a suggestion that they set up a way for people to contribute regularly thru credit card auto-re-billing. Now I'm sure I'm not the only person to have thought of this, but it was nice to see something I had advocated put into place (these days you have to cherish even the smallest victories).

So when I got a telemarketing call from the DNC asking if I would sign up for monthly contributions via credit card, I agreed.

The one thing I wish they had done differently was not push for such a high (not really high, but high to me) amount. They really wanted "between 0.80 and 1 dollar a day", which is $25 to $30 a month.

Because I make monthly contributions via credit card to other progressive causes (DU, ACLU, Buzzflash) I try to keep the donations to each organization at about $10/month. The DNC said they had a minimum of $12. So I set it up for $15.

Even so, the telemarketer was very grateful and said that if just 10,000 people would do the same as me that would be $1.8 million raised for the DNC, apart from large corporate donors and apart from any sort of election cycle contributions. I thought it was a really nice touch, even though it was a simple calculation. That it was done "on the fly" to make me feel like my modest contribution was truly helpful and truly powerful, was really nice and genuinely appreciated.
