Bush says no religious divide in US (Nov. 4, 2004)
http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?id=32859

WASHINGTON, Nov 4 (AFP) - President George W. Bush, who was given significant support by the Christian right in his election victory, sought Thursday to play down suggestions of a religious divide in the United States.

"I will be your president regardless of your faith, and I don't expect you to agree with me, necessarily, on religion. As a matter of fact, no president should ever try to impose religion on our society," Bush said at his first press conference since his victory.

2. Worried?
Sounds like maybe he's worried Americans are finally waking up to the Fundy-Fascist coup d'etat, and smell the spoor of The Beast all over him.

8. Religion MEANS division
By definition, it's impossible to have a religion without the infidels to kick around. Thousands of years of history has proven this. Even liberal christianity would become intolerant if the numbers were there.

The fundies are currently the worst religion in the US, but only because they are large and politically organized. When the catholics held political power in Europe, heads rolled - literally. If I lived in the Middle East, fundy christians would be not be a problem....especially when I had islamists wanting to kill me for being an infidel.

Religion should be treated like a fierce lion....it's best when it lives out in the wild or in the confines of a zoo.

9. "No president should ever try to impose religion on our society"
So George, if that's the case, why do want to end a woman's right to choose and codify anti-gay discrimination into the Constitution?

Because they offend your religious sensibilities, that's why!

18. Sometimes the more they say the more their work gets done.
Unless of course they actually know a candidate with a name of 72 syllables that will fit on yard sign. God help them if they don't. DOH!

11. He is One, We The People are All, All for ONE, and One for All!
Millenniums ago King Solomon wisely pushed two great pillars apart and destroyed a temple of that civilization. Now as Bush tries with all his might to restore the two pillars and foolishly pull them together. He too shall be caught in the middle. Becareful of what you wish for. The Magi may hear it and grant it.

16. By "the other faith" he means "we are two sides of the same coin"
And all of us together make for a stronger, more interesting country, that leads the world in tolerance and understanding, an example that all would want to follow.

He doesn't mean that anyone different than him needs to be excluded and punished horribly.

14. If Asshole was a real man, here's what he would've said:
"I hereby apologize to the people of the United States for dividing all of you over the issue of religion. Sorry, but when you're a born coward like me, you'll go to any extremes to save your own hide."

22. But We Can Look Forward To Motherless Ads From Rove...
...declaring that Democrats are at war with Jesus and that they want the Bible banned. Frist (?) will deny any connection and espouse tolerance for all views. Is this the sort of crap we need to pull to get it back?

20. If he truly believes his own words, then he lives in an
alternate universe. I sometimes think that he has so escaped living in the real world throughout his life, that it is impossible for him to frame his belief system, twisted as it is, within current reality. Other times, I think he's just so used to lying his way through life and having others clean up the dirt he leaves behind, that he's just arrogant. Most of the time, I think he's a sociopath--he's just plain nuts. Whatever, he sure has given a new meaning to the word "uniter"--one that makes it's original meaning obselete.
