I don't care if Reid apologized for calling Bush a loser.
As long as he keeps doing things that make Bush a loser.

and doing a great job. Bush is a loser. His legacy will be the worst of this century and the last.

Both books in his bathroom burned and he was really upset because he'd almost finished coloring the second one.

10. Most of us won't know
In order to get into the George W. Bush Presidential Library, you will have to:
  • Donate $1000 to the RNC;
  • Demonstrate that you own controlling interest in a major corporation that either pollutes the environment or exploits impoverished workers in developing countries;
  • Sign a paper stating that Bush was the greatest President ever and was an emissary from God;
  • Sign another paper stating that global warming is based on junk science and that intelligent design isn't;
  • Sign yet another stating claiming that Saddam had a biochemical arsenal, ties to al Qaida and was a major cause of cancer, tuberculous and tooth decay.

Edited on Sat May-07-05 09:38 AM by suegeo
As long as there is no holy water that visitors need to bless themselves with before entering...

I hear holy water blisters the skin of fake republicans.

Also, I think the major work available at the library will be the "Handbook of human trechery" with foreword by Hank Kissenger, many chapters by Nixon, Ford, Bush Sr. and the last few chapters ghost-written for Jr. by some party hack.

Hence, the quick turnaround on the "apology." I'm starting to get the sense that he's as shrewd and manipulative a politician as there is -- and I'm damn glad he's on our side.

I can't think of anything he's done except hand the Republicans everything that they want.

Seems to me, Reid should be apologizing to the Dems (or maybe for them)- not calling Karl Rove.

12. In this instance, Reid got to have his cake and eat it.
He got to call Bush a loser and then take the initiative to civilly apologize. I don't care if he's civil to Bush on the outside as long as he let's him have it when and where it counts. This spring he's been mostly doing that. Some DUers are thinking he's losing his nerve. Let's wait and see. It looks to me like he has a lot more fire in the belly for a fight than the last minority leader. Let's not judge his every move. We'll drive ourselves crazy expecting perfection.

26. Well, Dole managed to do a lot more
Edited on Sat May-07-05 06:10 PM by depakid
with a lot less during Clinton's first Congress. Let's see- blocked some nominations, killed the Fairness Doctrine with the threat of a filibuster, killed health care reform with no compromise- and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. And did the electorate punish the Republicans or being obstructionists in next election?

Democrats have been acting like battered women- they've developed learned helplessness- and rather than confront them- their supporters are enabling them saying in essence "its OK or you to be in this abusive relationship." There's nothing you can do.

Well, I say there is something they can do. And people will get behind them if they start standing up- and leave the Senate without a quorum if necessary. Get assertive and show some courage and conviction- and get out of the abusive relation.

I ain't asking or much. Just one or two decisive actions. So far, I've seen nothing but hollow words (which is what everybody else sees, too). If someone like Dole could act effectively with what was it- 59-41, you can't tell me that Reid can't do something with his margin....

35. How many GOP were in the Senate when Dole was Minority Leader?
Edited on Sat May-07-05 09:56 PM by ClarkUSA
I am asking because I am curious.

I wish Harry Reid was Senate Majority Leader then.

Dashle was the epitome of dishwater-weak Democrats and I'm glad he's gone -- to the same big lobbying law firm as Bob Dole, btw. Dole had a killer instinct Dashle lacked completely.

Reid doesn't operate from that deficit at all. He's stared down Las Vegas mobsters who tried to bomb his family home and blew up his car -- he knows what Karl Rove and the Mayberry Mafia are all about.

Reid has surprised the hell out of me by standing up to Bush** and the Radical RW time and again. I thought he'd turn out to be a Daschle clone, but he's a fighter.

And since it appears that you're missing the obvious humor in the current situation, let me break it to you gently. Reid didn't really call "Rove." It was a joke. Ever hear of a joke??

on a substantive level.

Words are cheap. Do you think he'll be able to block Bolton?

If not- given all the evidence, I submit that's proof he's no different or better than Daschle. Indeed- at this point, Daschle had a better track record.

Do you recall Jeffords' switch to "independent" status? Harry Reid was the behind-the-scenes persuader.

But then if you liked the last two and a half years of all repuke rule, this wouldn't be significant.

20. Much better than Kerry's apology after the "crooked liars" line
In a moment of honesty after a speech, Kerry's microphone picked up (paraphrased) "...don't worry, we'll get these guys. They're the biggest bunch of crooked liars I've ever seen." He backed off afterwards, saying he didn't mean the administration or republicans in general...just the guys on the campaign team who were lying about him. I thought his initial statement was great, the subsequent one weak.

33. Apparently...
He or a spokesperson said that since Bush was abroad ("probably sleeping," I think it was said), Reid called Karl Rove and expressed his regret that the remark was inappropriate.

He didn't say it wasn't true. He didn't say it to Cheney or Chimpy or even Hastert or Mehlman -- he said it to ROVE. Like, "Oops, I'm sorry I dissed your little Frankenstein." It was a statement, to me at least, that recognized Chimpy is a created, owned and operated by Rove.

I like Harry Reid more and more. :)

We want better for the Senate Minority Leader.

Besides, the GOP do it all the time.

Both Cornyn and DeLay of Texas apologized after they incited violence against judges post-Schiavo -- do you think anyone heard their apologies?

Reid knows how to give a non-apology. He said it was "inappropriate" - not that saying BUSH IS A LOSER to an entire high school civics class was wrong.

Damn he's good! He really is a wise leader. He managed to say what needed to be said, then came out of it looking good anyway.

If anything good came out of Daschle's underhanded defeat, this is it. Tom Daschle was a good Democrat, but he's no Harry Reid.
