Stephanie Miller says the "I" word!
The "I" word = Impeachment

70 + members of Congress have signed and sent a letter to
* asking if the data about WMDs and the threat to America
was changed so as to make a case for a war.

I doubt it will happen but I can dream.

Stephanie :loveya: Miller

3. That was hysterical, too.
"Stephanie Miller has mentioned IMPEACHMENT. Please LEAVE THE BUILDING..."

This is one excellent way to work this idea into the public consciousness - with withering humor.

4. The action against Clinton showed that impeachment is a political action
In the present political climate, any talk of impeachment is truly delusional.
Forgetting about impeachment, Bush had better hope that Congress and the Justice Department for the next few years is not in the hands of Democrats who have any interest at all in justice. Bush is a war criminal. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, Powell, Rice are war criminals. What they did in Iraq is not different that what German politicians and military officers did in Poland in 1939. They are liable for 1500 unnecessary American deaths and maybe as much as 100,000 Iraqi deaths.

5. First of all, I think it's against the rules to call someone delusional...
Edited on Fri May-06-05 09:19 AM by ClassWarrior
...on DU. Second of all, talking about impeachment is another glorious "windmill" that can have three simple effects: 1) It fires up our base; 2) It demonstrates our values; and 3) While slight, there's some hope that some day it might happen.

What's wrong with that?

10. Any talk about how impeachment is truly delusional is DEFEATIST.
Edited on Fri May-06-05 11:18 AM by calimary
That, then, makes it a reality. I'd rather not visualize that way.

Let's talk about, and focus on, and put our energy towards, how it CAN be a reality, how it CAN happen.

If we cut it down before it even has a chance to grow into a tree, whatthefuck are we accomplishing?

kkkarl rove has always thought/strategized big and bold. WHY CAN'T WE?

I, for one, am NOT a bit hesitant to call my reps and invoke the "I" word. I've been doing it for some time. Only NOW, we have something rather potent to add to the mix.

bush's polls are down. And sinking lower. He gained nothing from his 60-day snakeoil sales tour. The more he talks, the more people think it stinks. His news conference the other night cost him - what - EIGHT rating points? For Lord's sakes, look at the frickin' GALLUP polls - DOWN, TOO. And Gallup ALWAYS skews republi-CON. You now have a number of different papers and polls and op/ed pieces speculating that his juggernaut has stalled, the bloom is off the rose, lame-duck smell is becoming noticeable, wheels coming off the wagon. The Dark Side is taking on water. Wounded and limping badly. But still bellowing loudly and as ferociously as possible so you'll be distracted and stay cowed and discouraged. They WANT you to just keep on thinking "oh, what's the use?" Are you REALLY willing to stand for that, and let them win this one, again, too? You're not thoroughly sick and tired of it, and angry as hell, and ready to take your country back, with all your radar antennae extended and the dials turned all the way up and the modes all selected on widest scan for opportunities? You're not looking for EVERY POSSIBLE SCINTILLA of weakness in your enemy? Hell, there's ALL KINDS OF EVIDENCE of weakness becoming CLEARLY evident. We're just complete fuckin' idiots if we don't seize the opportunity. And milk the bejeeezus out of it. If now is NOT the time to strike, I don't know what is.

But I SURE AS HELL am NOT going to fall into the trap of "aw, it won't work, nothing works against this guy..." defeatist stuff. I'm not about to go pee on my own parade! Besides, there were people on the Dark Side who felt this way about Clinton and his "teflon presidency" and tried every which-a-way to get him, and THEY finally got as far as impeachment. And the spark of their effort was a complete pathetic piece of crap - a blowjob. THIS is about war and people's lives and national honor and security. Ain't no blowjob this time.

FIRST WE FOCUS on 2006 and winning so big there's no way they can steal it. THEN we go in for the kill. If we don't seize THIS time, when frist let "Justice Sunday" sink him into a sink hole, and tom delay is scuttering around the Capitol building trying to avoid packs of reporters like some cockroach searching for cover from the light of day, for Chrisssakes, WHEN WILL WE HAVE A BETTER CHANCE?!?!??!?!?!?!

FUCK IT. I'm calling my Congressman. I'm calling some OTHER PEOPLE'S congressmen/women, too. I'm calling John Conyers. And I'm calling Barbara Boxer. I'm gonna get started on this. If you're truly disheartened, you can sit back and shake your head and wring your hands and admit defeat now. Considering everything we've been through in the last 5-6-7 some-odd years since these vermin took over (starting in Congress, really, with little newtie in the 90's), I can understand how discouraging it can be. I wrestle with that, myself. But at the moment, I'm gonna go join the guys getting ready to sneak out onto the boats in the harbor and chop up the tea crates. In fact, I've gotta finish putting some quick snacks and bottled water together to take with us. And don't forget the lip balm.

18. Bravo, calimary!! Bravo!
I agree with what you say. If more and more congress critters hear the "I" word, the less shocking it will be.

1. 9/11 is no longer working for *.
2. Terror alerts are no longer working for *.
3. Arrests of truly important and scary terrorists (tm) are not working for *.
4. Social Security tour isn't working for *.
5. His ratings are in the crapper and sliding.
6. People are learning about Delay and his slimy dealings & * is dumb enough to link himself to Delay.
7. The Dems are getting a spine.
8. The Progressive community is working together.
9. The Progressives are pissed.

Now is the time.

19. Let's see
If I think it is somewhat an escape from reality to believe there is any chance of chimpie's impeachment by this hardcore repuke House and Frist's Senate, I am something of a defeatist?
Wow!

11. I really love Stephanie Miller...
I find her show one of the most entertaining AND informative on Progressive Radio.

But, to be fair... Randi Rhodes has been using the "I" word for as long as AAR has been on the air.

No matter how many Progressive Jocks use this word, however, it'll never happen as long as Bush controls all arms of the government. For articles of Impeachement to be brought, there would have to be far more parity (and maybe even a majority) of Dem's in both Houses of Congress. This is the only reason the articles were brought against Clinton. (Of course it was a political move! The retiring Henry Hyde said the Clinton Impeachment was "payback" for the Impeachment articles brought against Nixon, years earlier.)

I think we should just focus our energies on getting as many Democrats elected back into Congress as possibla, then on taking back the White House. As I so often say, we cannot govern, unless we win. And, we should use those Democrats to make sure we are never in this position again! We must never forget what this Republican majority did to our country, our families, or society, and our economy. Never.

17. I really wonder, though, about impeachment
Let's say that shrubby's ratings plunge down to, oh, %15 (which is where I think they truly are but whatever). This memo story takes hold but good.

Sooooo- how long until the moderate repubs start abandoning *? Do they dare stick with the president who the country hates and believes to be a liar? Do they stick with him and risk their own careers?

Or, do they impeach him and then don't remove him from office so they can look like they were doing something?
