Check out Dobson's answer to anti-gay agenda
This letter is in response to a very hospitable and dignified question sent to Dr. Dobson regarding their refusal to support gay rights. It seems he just doesn't get that the hostility that is aimed at them is BECAUSE of their bigotry and hatred of gays.

<snip>

To understand our position, you must know that many Christians also feel they have been victimized by society's hostility to traditional religious views.

A dear friend of mine, Bob Vernon, former assistant chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, was driven from office because of his faith. No charges were ever brought against him. The pressure was political, resulting solely from his fundamental beliefs. He is but one of thousands of people being discriminated against today because of their Christian beliefs.

How would you and your homosexual companions feel if we, as Christians, began lobbying for special, protected legal status? How would you react if we asserted that we should be given a job and shielded from termination just because we are Christians? I can predict that you would fight such ordinances tooth and nail. Why?

Because when one person wins in these kinds of struggles, someone else (the nonbeliever) loses. Thus, we must be very careful before creating new "minorities" based on behavior or beliefs -- as opposed to those who have been discriminated against historically based on their race.

Conservative Christians, by contrast, are stranded pretty much on their own. Given this undergirding, I hope you can see that our opposition to the gay and lesbian tidal wave is not an expression of hate but one of social justice and common sense.

1. but he's lying!
you cannot be fired from the LAPD because of your "faith".

Quite the opposite in fact - you most specifically can't be fired merely for being Christian or Jewish. However without sexual orientation laws, you CAN be fired for being straight. Duh, yeah, straight. Doesn't sound like a "gay" right to me.

Dobson, as usual, is a dishonest ass.

5. Maybe this is why he was fired? Seems reasonable to me.
1987, Los Angeles, CA. - Assistant Chief Robert Vernon, a fundamentalist minister, is disclosed to be recruiting hundreds of born again Christians from the department to his church. Vernon earns a substantial second income selling right-wing Christian books and tapes, and all his staff people at the police department are born again. Vernon is later caught accessing the department's computer to provide information about Michael Zinzun, a former Black Panther running for office in Pasadena, to a right-wing candidate supported by his wife.

2. Maybe we ought to fire Christians and not rent to them, etc..and I
would bet they would be lobbying for protection real quick!! In fact, they are lobbying already. They want their churches protected from taxes even if they devote 90% of their time to political posturing. What they fail to see is that their extreme statements are the source of people not wanting them in certain positions of authority and power. How can they be the ones being victimized?

10. I just hired a piano tuner
and purposely SKIPPED the one who had a Bible verse in his directory!

I won't deal with any company that tells people they are Christians in their advertising or names. I've seen, "Christian this" and Christ centered" and those fish symbols on companies. Walk on by I say!

3. "..Began lobbying for special, protected legal status"...
Aren't pharmacists refusing to do their job in dispensing BCP's under PROTECTED legal status already a reality in parts of this country? The lobbying and legislation has already started.

Oh, that poor misunderstood MAJORITY. Idiots.

4. His fundie group IS claiming special privilege by demanding what
type judges should be in the courts. He seems to be saying homosexuals are a minority based on behavior or beliefs- I don't believe homosexuality is either one.Behavior and beliefs imply there is a choice involved.

6. What a disingenuous POS!!
Being discriminated against for something beyond someone's control is WAAAAYYY different from being "persecuted" for being an in-the-face bigot BY CHOICE.
