4. Love Kucinich but...
I've got the feeling we'd get our asses handed to us again if Kucinich were to get the Democratic nomination. Love the man, think he's great and hell, I'm a Clevelander but I don't think the mainstream will go for it. That'll be two cents, please...

18. Fortunately most Democrats are smart enough
to have figured this out. If they had not, they certainly would have been overwhelmed by Congressman Kucinich's powerful charm.

Ive got a feeling? A feeling deep inside?
Would we do better with a decorated vet who carefully toes the line this side of outright political truth telling?
Sure didnt work last time, so I think we can put those theories to bed, OK?

How is it that an 'out of touch' lefty could keep doing that?

20. Mc Govern did not win his home state
in the presidential election. Nixon carried South Dakota by 9 percentage points. He was a popular Senator but this election was a referendum on the war and in 1976 America was still not willing to face up to the reality of Vietnam.

24. Many would say the same about Feingold
They aren't that far apart from eachother.
Of course, liberals who have your attitude are exactly why either one won't get elected.

25. Oh, Feingold can win
Kerry & Kucinich aren't that far apart on the issues either. Depending on where we're at with terrorism and Iraq, Feingold could win. I haven't gone through his entire record, but I think there's just enough red in there to do the trick.

28. I'm not convinced that being more red
makes someone more electable. I think we need someone who can inspire people in a way that makes liberalism more electable, in the same way that Reagan did for conservatism. Kerry was the most electable candidate in '04 on paper, but he turned out to not be very electable at all.

29. He does alright in Wisconsin
Had a decent number of Republican crossovers. But then Wisconsin does love a maverick. So I don't know if the appeal would carry over to the rest of the country.

30. True, but
my post wasn't really an argument against Feingold. It was an argument against the kind of thinking that says we need a moderate to win.

31. Ah, I should have read farther up. I see now
But I'm not sure being the only chap to vote against the Patriot Act is going to make him moderate in people's eyes.

He's a budget hawk to some extent. But then so was Kerry. I disagree with Sandnsea. I think Kerry is closer to Feingold in his stances.

Hmm. I should wander over to www.vote-smart.org and check out his record properly actually. Hang on.

(blink)

Here are his ratings with various interest groups.

http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=S0972103

Plus his voting record is around there somewhere as well.

Lookin' mighty liberal to me.

39. The reason why Kucinich
would never be able to gain any traction is because in most people's minds Dennis Kucinich=Socialist. Saying things like he'd eliminate all trade agreements. Whether or not I agree with that, you can't say things like that and expect to be taken seriously as a Presidential candidate.

You mentioned Feingold on the other hand, him and McCain are guys who benefit a lot from perception. McCain and Feingold both vote along party lines on most votes, but because of things like his policy on cabinet appointments Feingold appears to be much more moderate to the masses, although with a few exceptions you can almost always count on him upholding Democratic principles and values.

33. I think the main difference
is that Feingold seems more "normal".

Yes, it sucks that this country is superficial, but Kucinich is somewhat...ummm...kooky.

I'm not saying I disagree with him on the issues. I agree about 95% of the time (disagree strongly with his earlier votes on choice though)...but I don't see a somewhat short vegan promoting a "department of peace" getting elected to national or even state office anytime soon.
