Filibuster
I was just over at Buzzflash and saw the banner of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. When I saw that I realized that in the movie Mr. Smith filibustered to stop a bill that dealt with a shaddy land deal. Since filibusters can be used to stop things other than judges does anyone here think the Republicans are pushing for an end to the filibuster in order the prevent the blocking of bad legislation?

1. Only trying to stop legislation they don't like.
Instead of having to debate and discuss and come up with compromises that are benefitial to as many as possible, they want to push through their extremist agenda to benefit only those who agree with them, and at the same time punish those who disagree.

the least populous states representing about 16% of our population plus a Vice President could appoint judges for life to the Federal Courts.

Note that three quarters of our states must ratify an amendment to our Constitution, our basic law. Republicans want to appoint activist judges for life who would through interpretation change our basic law just as effectively and much easier than amending our constitution.

The scenario above negates much of the power of our House of Representatives, the only nearly democratic body in our government since the House equates one-person, one-vote for electing representatives of "We the People".
