FRC says Reid refused Frist's compromise on judges
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 10:34 PM by NormaR
This is just a blatant lie. I don't know what else to say about it.

From the Family Research Council:

A Compromise Declined

Today Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) offered a reasonable compromise on getting an up or down vote on President Bush's judicial nominees. Senator Frist's proposal would allow up to 100 hours of debate on each Circuit and Supreme Court nominee. This would allow both the majority party and the minority party plenty of time to persuade their fellow Senators to vote for or against any nominee. While this was not a perfect solution it was a proposal that was fair to both sides. Staying true to form, and loyal to the liberal groups that currently control his party, Senate Minority Leader Reid immediately refused Senator Frist's compromise. Senator Reid's actions today highlight how to the Democrats this issue is not about following the Constitution, restoring balance or preserving the rights of the minority party. After losing both Chambers of Congress and the White House, Senate Democrats see this as a political issue to fundraise and mobilize their base. Senator Frist acted in accordance with Founding Fathers like Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton in seeking a resolution to the current unprecedented judicial filibuster. Reasonable Senate Democrats need to question their leadership's rejection of his offer and speak out against this abuse of the Constitution.

2. Frist offered a compromise, but it was hardly reasonable . . .
Frist's "compromise" was that the Republicans would agree to allow Democrats 100 hours of debate on each nominee and the Democrats would agree to let every single Bush nominee get an up or down vote (i.e., be confirmed).

In other words, "if you agree to never ever ever use the filibuster again and let us rubber stamp every one of Bush's judicial nominees, we'll agree not to take the political heat that comes with officially eliminating the filibuster."

Right, Frist. Reid fell down with the last shower of rain.

4. Thomas Jefferson would hate the FRC
Thomas Jefferson wanted an 'eternal wall of separation between church and state.' Those are his words. He was very mistrustful of organized religion and was especially wary of mixing faith with politics.
