The Crybaby Option!
I read this over on Josh Marshall's TPM, though it sounded like a great re-frame of the Nuclear Option which the Dems are now being (incorrectly) credited with coining.

...
And TPM Reader RR makes an inspired suggestion which, I think, more faithfully captures what's in play than either 'nuclear' or 'constitutional'.

It's the Crybaby Option.

As he puts it, "Oh, boo-hoo, we only got 95% of what we wanted so we're changing the rules. Waaaaah!"

Sort of like at a seven-year-old's birthday party where they want the parent to change the rules of Pin the Tail on the Donkey because they're not winning every time.

They really are babies. So call them on it.

I'm going to start using it!

1. I always knew these people were infantile
when they started that 'soreloserman' shit with Gore. You know, when infantile minds call names, they're usually describing themselves. Of course, they've been rigging elections shamelessly so perhaps it's just an expression of inward guilt over having to cheat their 'soreloserman' into office.

Crybabies!

4. Exactly.
They have a history of name calling and infantile behavior. I'm reminded of the people dressed like waffles & flip-flops at Kerry rallies this summer.

The other advantage of using this frame is it will piss them off and detract from their "tough-guy father figure" image.

Other options:

Swiftboat Crybabies
Executive Crybaby (or crybaby in chief)
Republican Crybabies
Majority Crybabies
Religious Crybabies
Senate Crybabies
House Crybabies

18. Speaking of Swiftboat Crybabies, here's a great parody commercial
from Air America's Morning Sedition last fall. They didn't call them "crybabies", but they captured the whiney childishness. Funny!

BTW, count me in for using the new "reframe"!

3. That is the most apt description of it....
Because they ALL behave like a bunch of overgrown cry-babies!

...And as usual, Josh's readers are spot on!

About the only thing the Repubs (whether Dub & Co., or Evil Dr. Frist and Delay & Co.)are good at--besides regularly pulling the wool over the eyes of all the media whores, of course--is throwing temper tantrums when they can't get their way on everything.:eyes:

B-)

6. "Temper Tantrum" is another great use of the crybaby frame
This has a lot of possibilities...

Instead of saying "The Republicans are abusing power" say
"The crybabies are filling their diapers"

Hit 'em where they live!

5. I read this on TPM too
It's perfect. I can't believe Republicans are getting ready to go nuclear over less than 5% of Bush's judicial nominees. Crybabies!

I really think there is momentum building against the Republicans. Trouble is, Americans have such short memories that unless the Repukes continue to act like whiny, power mad lunatics, all will be forgotten by 2006/08.

7. But that will be our fault if it's forgotten by '06
That means our advertising campaigns are weak and don't play on the scary music "Candidate x did y" method. I'll forgive the Dems not controlling the discussion all the way into '08, but there's no excuse for '06.

We need to repeat, repeat, repeat until the language becomes mainstream. (think death tax, partial birth abortion, clear skies, etc)

8. Terrific Framing ... The Truth!
Those mean Dems are not rubber stamping ALL of chimpy's judges -

Those nasty old Dems are not playing nice and are actually exposing serial abuser incompetent boob Bolton for who he is -

Those activist judges are undermining founding intent and Christian ideals -

Those judges are not active enough in forcing a woman in a PVS to remain on life support against her wishes, as determined after nearly a decade of litigation in the state of Florida. -

12. already started using it.
I used it a few minutes ago here at work. The Crybaby rethug was startled for a second. Then he started changing the subject and talking over me. I pointed out that he was filibustering. The rest of the group just started laughing.

Thanks Josh!
