Boycott credit card companies
Anyone who cares about basic justice should cut up their credit cards and move their bank accounts to a credit union. Hit where it hurts: silver and gold.

2. Did You Ever Try Renting a Car w/o a Credit Card?
It's damn near impossible.

3. Renting a car....
Lots of car rental places will take VISA debit cards these days. I'm not saying you should REALLY avoid credit card for ever. I'm just saying carrying a debt with these people is not "buying blue."

4. You find the right company, and I'll switch
I was going to dump my MBNA for their actions.

Now, finding a Visa/MC that has no annual fee, and is from a company that isn't evil, that could be tough.

I'd like the interest rate reasonable, but I pay every month, so that's not the most important piece by far.

I've been looking, but they're all owned by the same banks.

This may be a losing fight.

5. now that's an uphill battle. might i suggest...
buying a stock or two and combining yours and others proxy vote to write in a particular board of director. something like, for example... DU message board all gathers and pushes their proxy vote for one particular DU member, preferrably someone who's outta work at the moment.

when the company profits, you win; when the company doesn't profit, you only have a share or two so you don't really lose (unless it's something ridiculously expensive like berkshire hathaway). and you'd have a voice in the system. ;) a bit devious, but deliciously fun.

if we could weild some of that grassroots money tossed in political races and decide to bring some companies to heel would be nice. politics is often pretty expensive, pooling influence to weild a board member might be cheaper in several cases.

reason why is a lot of these businesses are huge and have tentacles everywhere. it'd be very hard for your boycott to be effective in time, and there's probably better corporate targets out there. something similar scared sinclair, perhaps it can work again.

8. well, i'm preoccupied with school... i'd recommend someone else
but if no one else wants to, somebody should stand up and represent. there's plenty of really hard up, but wholly talented and skilled, DU members here, many with families to support, that i'd recommend first.

sure MBNA might be a den of evil, but what would you give to have a fly on their walls? and then what would you give to have a vote in their direction? a $100 bill or two to buy a stock or two to have that sort of access is really a steal. the difficulty is coordinating proxies.

7. Gold is up 75% since 2001 vs the $.
The more you trade in your $$$ for something else fucks up the credit card companys (inflation)and banks as it reduces the debt load poor people have over their heads by banks and Credit Card companys.

Not so much credit card companys since they can constantly adjust even their "fixed rate" contracts.

I dont buy this housing market bubble propaganda. In the 1970s ,when the middle class had large savings, the "Federal" Reserve stole it all through hyper inflation , then overseas investors had to buy up U.S. property a it was their only way to get rid of their $$$ without getting a fucked up deal.Japans inflation hedge was misread as a Japanese takeover of our country.

I think our currency will loose alot more value than property.

Not a bad thing since most people are in massive debt. The Fed and media will use every trick in the book to srew average Americans.

12. Unfortunately
they are an evil necessity at times (i.e. the "obligatory" sears card) and I have a Chase with a low limit. They have been very good, actually.

However, PROVIDIAN is evil and must be avoided at all costs. They did an UNauthorized balance transfer on me of $9500 last November just because I called for info and applied. They were specifically told NOT to take any action until I had READ the fine print but the transaction was done before I received the information! No signature, no nothin' and I was told "read the small print". Sleazy MF's. I am proud to say they have been paid, completely, and I will tell all what pariahs PROVIDIAN credit card company is! That would be PROVIDIAN credit card company. And, OH, did I tell you they are located in Dallas, Texas? Yes, PROVIDIAN is located in Dallas, Tx. How appropriate, don't 'cha think?

Their card has been cut up, and the account closed, as have my AAA Visa and ATT Universal. I informed both Visa and ATT Universal I cannot do business with greedy bastards who prey on those less fortunate. I also "educated" them that the majority of bankruptcies stem from medical bills, job loss, and divorce. I went on to inform them they are very unpatriotic for not at least PAYING congress to allow the exemption for our military. They didn't like dealing with an informed person. Not in the least

No balance on Lowes or Sears, very little on Chase. I'm getting there.

14. did that last year , been at my credit union for 15 years
:hi:

Also I now make cheeseburgers for lunch at home
to save money and to stop supporting corperate fast
food chains . which was another big vice of mine.

I quit smoking 4 and a half months ago , the election
and big tobacco's political contributions help me keep
my commitment .

Slowly but surely I'm weening myself to put my money
where my mouth is .

I support Working Assets Long Distance phone company
because I like their agenda . they want clean air and
water .

I may just be one person , but I do what I can .
