I really really hate conservatives:
I go to the NYTimes website to check the Thursday's columns. What do I see? David Brooks stating that Roe Vs. Wade should be overturned because of the current problems in the Senate. Is it the fault of the right grabbing power as much as possible? Oh no...it MUST be that Goshawful "invention of the right to an abortion"

Does David Brooks know ANYTHING about women and what we go through in our reproductive lives? He wants us to go through the legislative process because he dislikes abortion, well FINE...while we do that let us have up to 100,000 women A YEAR die because this. Maybe instead of bitching about abortion he could be out there working to reduce the need, AND reversing the hijacking of his party by the nutcase fundies.

I swear I am so angry and yet so dispirited. They never ever stop...why do we even bother?

1. Democrats, I fear, are the NEW CONSERVATIVES
Original Conservatives believe in these things:

Eschew excessive foreign entanglements.

Don't spend more than you make--deficits are BAD.

Don't involve government in personal life decisions (abortion and Schiavo come immediately to mind).

This is New America. Black is white, up is down, right, as it alwasy seems to be, is WRONG.

I can buy all of the above, but I like the government's participation in a social safety net. Feed the hungry, house the poor, take care of the weak and the elderly, cure the sick...gee, maybe on that platform, we could form the JESUS party. We'd win on the name and ideas alone!

How could a fundie vote against JESUS????

2. Because they believe the TV rather then the Bible.
I have a Republican Pastor who I constantly point out Bush's inconsisitences in following our (mine and my Pastor's as I am not sure of your religious beliefs) Lord and Savior and yet he still likes Bush.

3. The TV doesn't lie.
Because the TV says nothing.

Next on the "news" the latest on the Michael Jackson trial. But first, pictures of puppies.

Later, DeLay did something, but we didn't read the press release, so we're going to show him shaking hand with people. Then, we had another high speed chase today, here's footage from ActionChopper...

5. You need to start messing with that guy
Send him stuff from liberal sites, put flyers under his windshield wipers...all religious, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

Even stone can be worn away with water, as Saint Bruce Lee liked to point out.

Well, boys, I reckon this is it - nuclear combat toe to toe with the Roosskies. Now look, boys, I ain't much of a hand at makin' speeches, but I got a pretty fair idea that something doggone important is goin' on back there. And I got a fair idea the kinda personal emotions that some of you fellas may be thinkin'. Heck, I reckon you wouldn't even be human bein's if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelin's about nuclear combat. I want you to remember one thing, the folks back home is a-countin' on you and by golly, we ain't about to let 'em down. I tell you something else, if this thing turns out to be half as important as I figure it just might be, I'd say that you're all in line for some important promotions and personal citations when this thing's over with. That goes for ever' last one of you regardless of your race, color or your creed. Now let's get this thing on the hump - we got some flyin' to do.

12. I'm still waiting for the ERA to pass -- as a woman, I do not have
equal rights to a man and never have. It's gotten better during my lifetime, but Roe vs Wade was the most fundamental decision that gave me a semblance of equal rights -- it allowed me control and choice over my own body. Well, in theory, at least. The truth is far more complex and socially based than legally based. It's been illegal to beat a woman into a bloody pulp for a long time -- by her husband for a far shorter time. It's been illegal to rape someone for a long time -- but during the past couple of decades only has it been illegal for a husband to rape his wife at will. And, so it goes.

MURDER . Every day four women die in this country as a result of domestic violence, the euphemism for murders and assaults by husbands and boyfriends. That's approximately 1,400 women a year, according to the FBI. The number of women who have been murdered by their intimate partners is greater than the number of soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.

BATTERING . Although only 572,000 reports of assault by intimates are officially reported to federal officials each year, the most conservative estimates indicate two to four million women of all races and classes are battered each year. At least 170,000 of those violent incidents are serious enough to require hospitalization, emergency room care or a doctor's attention.


SEXUAL ASSAULT . Every year approximately 132,000 women report that they have been victims of rape or attempted rape, and more than half of them knew their attackers. It's estimated that two to six times that many women are raped, but do not report it. Every year 1.2 million women are forcibly raped by their current or former male partners, some more than once.

THE TARGETS . Women are 10 times more likely than men to be victimized by an intimate. Young women, women who are separated, divorced or single, low- income women and African-American women are disproportionately victims of assault and rape. Domestic violence rates are five times higher among families below poverty levels, and severe spouse abuse is twice as likely to be committed by unemployed men as by those working full time. Violent attacks on lesbians and gay men have become two to three times more common than they were prior to 1988.
