Hmm... Chafee Seems To Be Turning !!!
Sorry about using TV News reports. Is that an oxymoron?

Anywho...

From 22 hours ago: http://www.wpri.com/Global/story.asp?S=3231999&nav=F2DOYquS

"Chafee told The Associated Press that the circumstances surrounding the nomination were regrettable, but said he'd reluctantly support John Bolton."

From 7 hours ago: http://www.abc6.com/engine.pl?station=wlne&id=16342&template=breakout_story_local_news.shtml&dateformat=%25M+%25e,%25Y

"Chafee had been prepared to support John Bolton, President Bush's provocative choice. But later, Chafee said the dynamic had changed and he was glad for the additional time to review the nominee."

C'mon Linc... DO THE CORRECT THING!!!

1. Maybe all the freepers will make him think twice about towing the line
I'm sure the more death threats and accusations of being a communist and hating our country, the less likely he'll be to do what these crazed people want.

4. Lincoln's foxhole conversion
If the circumstances of Bolton's nomination were "regrettable" yesterday, why was Chafee supporting him nevertheless? You have one vote on this, Mr. Chafee, and it doesn't matter if you're holding your nose and your sphincter simultaneously when you vote to confirm -- it's still a vote to confirm a poor choice.

The only "dynamic" that's changed since yesterday is that now Chafee has more cover politically to do what he's known all along is the right thing to do.

7. I've always liked Linc.
I think he may switch over after all if we keep up the pressure. Of course, the odds of the Democratic leadership pressuring a Republican Senator are slim to none.

8. I called his office today
And told them that now that Sen Voinivich had turned, he could leave his "reluctance" behind and vote no. Why do something you regret? I told them it was inexcusable for him to vote for someone he knew would not be a good representative of this country to the world.

What were the consequences? They'd have to pick someone less reprehensible?

I told her that a decision you make regretfully is whether to undergo chemo or radiation, not to vote for someone you know is not good when there are alternatives.

I hope he will do the right thing. but who knows- the Republican party is so nuts these days- what bunch of control freaks!

BTW- I also called Senator Voinivich's office and congratulated him for putting America ahead of party loyalty and showing independence and careful thoughtful decision making,.

(I love my unlimited long distance cell phone plan!)
